There's an interesting view on tax credits here from Ruth Porter of the Institute of Economic Affairs, should come with a health warning for the closet and out in the open reds

A very good article and, yes, Keith - Brown was responsible and we are struggling to deal with his appalling legacy.

My daughter is a widow bringing up three teenagers on her own. She works hard at her job and will be hit hard by this. She would hate to live on benefits and I hope she never has to but it's people like her, and there are plenty, that will suffer.
There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

Your daughter is one of many being put in this position Jacqui, the plans are nothing short of cruel and will hit people like her that don't want to sit at home watching daytime television. Even with the cuts in out of work benefits there will still be those who have made a lifestyle out of skiving collecting £.26,000 nett every year

Let's take this a step further Dover is a low wage town like many others and most people spend all their income as it comes in, no real chance of savings other than the odd holiday.
This means that our shops, cafes and pubs that struggle as things are will take a big hit while wealthier places will be unaffected.

The tax credit cuts will be delayed thanks to our unelected peers, finally earning some of there excessive pay!
Tried posting a link but gave up, sorry.

Good for the Lords, this planned cut by the Tories is a big own goal that would bring misery to many of the low paid.

One would think that after two decades of not winning elections and being seen as the nasty party they would have learned a lesson. The plan is as I see it is to hit home now with over 4 years to go before the next election. There appear to be plans to hit pensioner benefits as some will be dead the next time we vote!! Blue Barry must be loving it.

Looks like everyone is suffering from the austerity measures. Everyone is chipping in though!

Tax credits are a great idea - but unfortunately they have worked too well for the working man. Now the Tories can't have that can they?- after all they champion 'hard working families'. Now they wouldn't want them to earn too much would they? Let's keep them on just enough - then we can control them.People aren't interested in the invisible benefits that Osbourne keeps harping on about-folks are interested in the penny in their pocket! Wide screen TV's and fags for the unemployed? Who can blame them-good on them-go for it before they take it all away having previously destroyed your job prospects by not supporting industry.
Never give up...
