looks like a back track from george here which will see the better off keep their child benefit and the less well off being better off on the dole due to cuts in working tax credit.

"No one should be better off on the dole than working" I can still hear it ringing in my ears.

Tax credits are far too expensive and complex and need to be phased out. They also help hold down wages through market distortion.

hardly any comfort to those losing their credits, they are at the low paying end of the job market and ewmployers can only pay so much.
yet longer dole queues and all the social problems that go with it.

Tomorrow more of the 96% of deficit cuts ``still`` to come will take away thousands of pounds from families with
children...............
Households with children are the group to lose the most.................
The worry to the general public is ...............the rest of the 96% has yet to happen to them...................
...............`Austerity`has not arrived yet !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...............

Overheard two girls yesterday, one of them pregnant: "Once you've had the baby go on benefits, you'll get everything paid for"

I see, you have to be a 'closet blue' to understand what tax credits often go towards paying for, according to Reg.... The simple fact is, that you cannot get away from, is exactly what Paul and Colin have referred to, people on benefits often (yes, not always - often) have have their iphones, flat screen tvs, Sky packages and are often among the heaviest smokers as well. We are paying for that and rather than make an intelligent response all we get is what is (according to your values), a insult.

"an insult" Barry. Lets not be too common.
Why not ban sales/advertising/manufacture of luxury items that 'tend' to lead the spendthrift astray?
Lets get back to NOT having what you cannot pay cash for? How do you like them apples?
Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.

i8 think a point is being missed here, people getting working tax credits would be better off not working if they were taken away.
i do know of someone that had never worked until they came in, he had 6 children which made it a cash loser to take on a job.

Howard, that is being addressed in the IDS reforms. I assume then that you support what IDS is doing.
Tom - the fact is that Reg uses 'right wing'. Tory and now 'closet Tory' as insults and his only point was to insult and not make a constructive counter-point such as I have just done to Howard's latest missive.

"closet blues"
As mentioned before, I have never voted and don't have any intention of voting, whoever is in power will do 99% of what the opposion will do so what is the point but that is another subject.....?
As also mentioned before, a lot of BarryW's postings I can understand and the vast majority of your's Reg are too confusing/too cryptic to understand (and I am probably not alone?)....
6 kids/no job Howard ???!!!
Been nice knowing you :)

paul scochie
can only go by your posts which make you look to be a closet tory
you are seen very critical of the labour party
but rarely(if ever)crtical of other parties.
