12:0976058politics in tower hamlets has always been decidedly dodgy, always accusations and counter accusations.
ken livingstone knows what he is doing, the massive asian vote is up for grabs at the next mayoral election.
he would probably do better if he did not have the labour candidature, won previously as an independent and will be likely to do it again next time.

13:2176074Keith - you said:
"""Barryw
unlike yourself i'm happy to speak openly about the party"""
Please explain this I have no idea what you are on about.
'the party' what party? I speak frequently about all the political parties, quite openly, both critically and supportive regarding mine.

14:1776084Multiculturalism only started to go wrong when the host nation became wusses. When the incoming and the host understood and respected their positions it was clear, calm and easier to manage. And that isn't racist - I talk from the point of view of an incoming!!! It was when we were all expected to bend over backwards and kiss our culture goodbye that the problems really started - there will always be pockets of the disaffected, British as well as from other cultures, races and ethnicities, but only when that is tolerated will it boil over and scald our toes.

14:1976085By the way, did anyone hear the eejit this morning on the radio claiming that the 3 suspensions from the Lords for abuse of expenses was racist because all 3 were of asian descent? No son, it wasn 't, it was because they were all thieving lying corrupts who took our money and still don't see what is wrong with that.

16:0776100Bern, I couldn't quite get your point there, about bending over backwards to kiss a culture goodbye.
Are you referring to us British, including yourself, or to yourself as incoming? It so happens that I never considered the Irish as different or as not British, nor as incoming, and certainly do not know of the Irish ever having to kiss goodbye an Irish culture in Britain. I have had various Irish teachers at school, but they all considered themselves as us, and we consediered them as a part of us.
Unless I misread your post, you could explain a bit there, as I am quite perplexed here.
Also, I think I asked you a month or so back on the Forum if you knew where I can get Irish bagpipe muic.
So there yoy go, here's one who's interested in Irish culture!

19:0476114Alexander D, I hope you are enjoying your posts. You seem to take pleasure in finding snippets to whinge about in others posts. Just an observation, Alex. And, no explanation, I don't feel the need.

23:0576176I've just enjoyed a fantastic British quiche (pronounced kweech), it had the British flsg symbol on the packet, and was made of English Chedar, Welsh leeks, British free-range eggs and bacon.
I sat down and enjoyed it!

08:1176190Ken Livingstone was excluded from the party before. He sat in the wilderness for several years and then was brought back into the fold. But he is a guy, very popular in London over the years to give him his due, I lived there through all his high flying Red Ken days at County Hall and beyond, but a guy who still feels he is bigger than the organisation that put him where he is.
He has already been re-selected to fight the Mayor thing again..he beat Oona King for the nomination. I think Im remembering that correctly.
