I have corresponded with Vic over the years by e-mail, but this one looks odd. It contains only a link to a blog and has no 'subject'.
It may be that his PC too has been compromised and so I feel unable to check by simply responding.
Any thoughts?

I shall do the same. Thanks Paul. (It appears to have been sent to eight people in total?)

I opened it, wish I had deleted it straight away! Hopefully my programme will have countered any virus and binned it!

Same here - certainly looks like a hack. Incidentally, I also have received a couple of phishing emails recently (I hope merely coincidentally just after I had given my email address to a particular company). The emails have been forwarded to the relevant organisations.

Kath.
How do you know it was about slimming?
Did you open it before deleting it?
If you opened it prior to deleting it, you may have a virus and needs sorting.

I had a similar email from a friend yesterday containing that link to slimming website. He had not sent the email.
I did open it but ran a full computer scan afterwards and fortunately nothing sinister was found.
Got the same email again today and immediately deleted it!

Gary - yes, I did open it. I have an Apple Mac. Not noticed anything strange about it yet. Our son coming down tonight, will ask him to check (he works for Apple)

You should be ok then but always worth checking.

He says should be fine, because (1) it's an Apple, and (2) also has virus protection which stops anything being sent on.

He is right about Apple and he is right about VP on Apple at the moment.
However, virus protection on windows based pc's, does not mean you will not get virus's.
I usualy explain it by saying that "the best goalkeeper in the world will ocassionally let in a goal".

A very good reason to scan for problems on a regular basis, I run a security scan at least once a week depending on how often I have used the computer.

A message from Vic.
He apologises to everyone who received one of those e-mails and explained he had picked a virus up on his computer.
The virus has now been dealt with and hopefully it will not happen again.

Scanning is so important. I have nightly scans for malware and spyware a bit before my pc backs-up and I do an additional spyware scan at least once a week.

i had norton for years and had a lot more problems.
