Definition of louche.........
"Disreputable or sordid in a rakish or appealing way: "the louche world of the theater"."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Thanks for the definition Jan - can't remember doing anything disreputable or sordid - at least not on purpose.

Thank you each and all for 'having at me' for the word rather than my levity.
It is not so much the modern definition that made it the right word to use, but it's origin...
"Origin:
early 19th century: from French, literally 'squinting'"

Sorry couldn't be at the Dover service, not yet mastered the art of being in two places at the same time. below picture taken by my wife of the band at Eythorne's service.

Thanks Tom. I wasn't having a go at you at all - I prefer the early French translation of squinting, so much nicer than disreputable or sordid.
I thought Howard's quip was quite funny - I'm sure David would too - and Terry as well.

David and I work well together, we both know what needs doing and when.
The only blight on the day was at the end when a chap came up to me and said that he was "disgusted" at not being called out by name to lay a wreath. He did in fact send his wife over first to query it. Checking my running order I found that I did in fact miss him out, he was right at the top of page two hidden under the clip on my clipboard. I apologised but he wasn't having any of it and just kept on complaining. He demanded to know what my position was so that he could write a formal complaint and take it further. When I asked him why he didn't lay the wreath at the end when I invited "anyone else" he commented that he wasn't there to join the also rans! I am surprised that someone so self opinionated should have the postion he has in society but I suppose it takes all sorts.

It does indeed take all-sorts Terry.
O.K. you made a mistake, but you apologised and as you say, he could have laid his wreath at the end.
Hope it doesn't put you off of helping with this and other events.

A job well done Terry .The gentleman also spoke to me .He used to work at DDC .He could have laid his wreath at the end .Surely it was about our fallen servicemen and to think of those still preserving the peace .

Sorry I was not there but attended the service at River Church & War Memorial and it was also well attended. The Revd Andy Bawtree carried out a very respectful service and very well organised. I just wish there was a way they could stop the traffic going down Minnis Lane for two minutes.
Terry do not give it a second thought, I was of the opinion you go to give your respects to the fallen not looking for self gratification. Let him send a letter of complaint and I hope he gets an answer that puts him in his place.

so this chap thinks that having his name read out is more important than laying a wreath to commemorate the fallen.
takes all sorts i suppose.

It takes all sorts indeed Howard. I was reminded, on seeing Dave doing his bit, of the photo opportunity of a couple of short years ago. Whether this complainant had need of a photo, who can tell?
