Angela Merkel urges David Cameron to crack down on tax havens
The two leaders also discussed EU trade during talks in Berlin
Prime minister David Cameron, left, signs the guestbook as German Chancellor
Angela Merkel, right, looks on inside the government's guest house Schloss Meseberg.
The coalition's plans to crack down on Britain's tax havens were discussed at a meeting
between David Cameron and chancellor Angela Merkel, amid growing concerns in
Germany. Merkel is understood to have had questions about the monitoring of British
sovereign territories used as tax havens by the rich.
The German public has been alarmed in recent weeks about reports of its citizens using
havens to avoid paying taxes at home, and the matter has become an electoral issue.
But sources close to Cameron said that he was first to raise the future of the territories
in order to spell out how his government was cracking down on tax avoidance in places
such as Jersey and Guernsey.
A Downing Street spokesman said the prime minister was keen, ahead of June's G8
summit in Northern Ireland, to stress that the UK and others "should show global
leadership by taking concrete action on tax evasion and aggressive tax avoidance
and making clear that everyone must pay their fair share of taxes".
Finance Johnnies and Right wingers will not be amused..............

Any news yet from Berlin?
Britain's destinies are being discussed in Berlin?
Has the leader of the German government issued any official statement on Britain's future?
Will Berlin decide to keep the Conservative party running in Britain by reducing a portion of foreign rule over our Country?
Will PM Dave receive the go-ahead to prevent a mass influx of immigration?
Will PM Dave have to make some concessions in order to receive concessions from the leader of a foreign government?
Will PM Dave ever come back? Will he look us in the eyes?
Will ye nae come back again?
Oh will ye marry me? Or will ye leave me?
By day I wait, by night I cry,
Oh Dave will ye go away and leave me alone?
Or will ye come back unto me?

Perhaps the PM is desperately looking for a last-ditch support before the County elections in England.
If he doesn't get this from Angela Merkel, the Tories will be swept out of power at local level.
They're likely to come third after UKIP.
This is an hour of dire desperation for the Conservative party.

Indeed, it would be proof that the Localism project was a dud, an empty promise, a vain attempt, and was replaced by an Austerity project instead.
And that at the local elections, where all things local count, the Coalition received the receipt from the electorate.
Then the Government will stand out like an oddball, people will scratch their head, and from that point on it would be downhill all the way.
All because the Government decided to hand over all decisions to a few people, most outstanding of all the Chancellor.
Anyone here ever seen "Localism"?
And that is what the Coalition is about to be told quite clearly at the coming County elections.

So you want Labour to run County Hall in Maidstone Alexander ? KCC will be bankrupt in two years - just like at Government level and local (DDC) level, Labour will just waste your (and our) money. Prudency is not part of their language.

Nooo, Roger, Labour is the doom party.
My guess is UKIP will come second, on average, and Conservatives third.
Also as a result of the divided vote, Labour may come first.
But the fact is, Roger, this is about Local Government, and the Coalition did not implement anything in that respect.
They have given us NO localism, even though it was an important part of their declared intentions in May 2010.
What we need is greater financial and administrative authority at County and District level, with less tax going to the central Treasury and more of it staying here.
We could then dedicate more resources to the local economic needs and so-by bring about more employment and increased economic output.
Ultimately, this would bring down taxes, as we'd be paying considerably less on benefits. County and District Government would be obliged to tend to the needs of their own people alone, stimulating employment and making sure employers abide to the rules, offering US jobs, and not all and sundry from low wage countries.
Presently, we are subject to EU rules of employment and benefits, while the vast majority of taxes we pay go to the central Government Treasury.
At this rate, we don't stand a chance, hence my boycott of the County elections.
To take part would mean buckling down to capitulation, and pretending we never heard of the Government's promises to give us Localism.
