David Cameron to discuss EU reform with Angela Merkel in Germany
In unusual move, German chancellor has invited UK prime minister and
his family to stay in country residence outside Berlin
In a highly unusual move, Merkel has invited the prime minister and his family
to stay at her residence in Meseberg, outside Berlin - the German equivalent of
the prime minister's country residence, Chequers.
It is the first time Cameron's wife, Samantha, and their three children have
accompanied him on an official visit. Also unusually, Merkel's husband,
Joachim Sauer, will be present at the gathering.
The two leaders will talk over "all aspects" of European reform as well as the
forthcoming G8 summit and the situation in Syria, the a spokesman for the prime minister said.
Germany has reacted coolly to Cameron's calls for a renegotiation of Britain's relationship
with the EU. He was dealt a major blow this month when Merkel and the French president
, François Hollande, snubbed a UK exercise to assess the impact of EU laws and regulations
on Britain and the rest of Europe. The "balance of competences" review was dubbed a
questionnaire by Berlin and Paris.

Yes Howard, but the fact she's invited his family to meet her family suggests something other than bullying.

i wasn't suggesting bullying as such david, she doesn't need to - her intellect will get the result she wants. opinion polls show her to be the most popular chancellor ever despite her party slumping badly at regional elections..

Sorry Howard I disagree.
I'm not doubting her intellect (or Cameron's) if she simply wanted what you call a result she wouldn't mess around with his family.
As I say above, we are natural allies, this is an olive branch from Merkel.

As we can see, the Prime Minister has to go oversees to the leader of a foreign government in order to try to negotiate who rules over Britain, and to ask and beg if Britain could be ruled to a lesser measure by a foreign parliament.
He will no doubt explain in private that his party has slumped to 27% popularity among those who would vote, while those who won't vote are the majority. That with about 15% support among the general electorate, his party needs a promise of renegotiation of foreign supremacy over Britain, else his party stands to be swept away at the next General Election.
Meanwhile, the Slovenian government will be sounding a serenade under Frau Merkel's window, followed by: "can you toss us a 20 billion Mark note out of your window, Gnaedige Frau?".
Ireland's government will have meanwhile realised they cannot repay the bailout installments, and will ask for a referendum for a renegotiation of repaying tens of billions of euro to foreign countries, and will be told to prepare two referendum dates, the second just in case....
Cyprus just discovered they need a further 7 billion euro, they must sell their golden wedding rings, and all earrings and necklaces....(this because their savings may be utterly confiscated, so they will have to live somehow).
While the PM is begging a foreign leader to alleviate the rule of a foreign parliament over Britain, directors of Britain's top share companies will be figuring out next year's bonuses for themselves.
To the tune: I, me and myself, ha ha ha, tout le monde est une merde!

Is this the first signs of the ``expected`` climb down ?.........................
Eurosceptics open to compromise over reforms, says senior Tory
Andrea Leadsom says Conservatives are not dogmatic and will support Cameron's
even-handed approach with EU
Andrea Leadsom said Eurosceptics are not looking for David Cameron to play hardball
with EU leaders.
A leading Conservative MP said Eurosceptics in the party were willing to compromise
over their demands for European Union reform as David Cameron flew to Berlin to
discuss them with the German chancellor, Angela Merkel.
Andrea Leadsom, the MP who heads the Fresh Start Group, which has drawn up a
detailed manifesto for the repatriation of powers to the UK, said that there was no one
in the party who wanted Cameron to "lay down the law" to Britain's EU partners and
that compromise was essential.
Cameron has also been adopting a conciliatory, rather than a confrontational tone
, stressing that the proposals he set out in his Bloomberg speech on Britain and Europe
in January are for the benefit of the EU as a whole, and not just to appease the demands
of British Eurosceptics.
Another ``U`` turn in the making ?..........how many more can he sustain ?

Tories build secret alliance with Eurosceptics behind Merkel's back
David Cameron arrived in Germany for talks with Angela Merkel on Friday evening
as his Conservative allies planned a secret deal with German Eurosceptics backing
his bid to loosen Britain's European Union membership.
Talks between the Tories and the new Alternative fuer Deutschland (AfD), an anti-euro party,
came to light as the Prime Minister and his family flew to Germany as the personal guests
of the Chancellor at the castle of Meseberg, her country retreat.
The invitation for Mr Cameron to bring his wife Samantha and his children, Nancy, nine,
Elwen, seven, and Florence, two, to stay in the elegant 18th century castle north of Berlin
was intended to underline that the visit was a special courtesy, "perhaps not just pure routine".
"It is a meeting linked to numerous, highly intensive, good discussions that the Chancellor
has had with Prime Minister Cameron," her spokesman said.
Mr Cameron's aides admit that winning Mrs Merkel's support will be vital to his attempts
to negotiate a looser British EU membership deal, a new settlement he has promised to
put to a referendum by 2017.

But The Daily Telegraph can reveal despite the personal warmth between Mr Cameron
and Chancellor Merkel, the Conservatives are negotiating a secret alliance behind her
back with Eurosceptic rivals to her Christian Democrats ahead of national elections
this year and European polls in 2014.
"We have made contact with the AfD but there is no formal agreement. Obviously it's a bit sensitive
. We don't want Merkel complaining to Cameron," said a senior Conservative source.

Yes, Roger, it is all nonsense.
It is the plain and utter facts what I wrote.
You can be assured that not only Cypriots, but people all over Britain and Europe too are selling their gold jewellery, possibly as the last resort before going onto the next round: the payday loan.
And yes, the PM will be explaining away to the leader of an oversees government how his party will stand to lose dismally the next GE if he cannot come back with some sort of alleviation of foreign parliament rule over Britain.
And he will be begging that Britain be allowed to counter the mass immigration of Romanians and Bulgarians to Britain.
How spineless!

The spineless Government

Let's face it, Roger, without the Iron Lady, the Government has no metal to fall back on. It has become spineless.

Just imagine if the Ed Miller band were Prime Minister. Not only would He welcome more and more laws and treaties from Europe with open arms He would prostrate himself in front of Merkel offering to give an extra £100 billion to help with things.
He would then increase this figure to £120 billion the following year and every year after that.
Eds political role model is none other than Michael Foot, He of the donkey jacket fame, with Neil Kinnock following a close second.

Yep you're right, Philip, Ed Millipede would run a thousand feet with a sack full of money and toss it at all Europe, all our money!
