Leprechaun Trivia
5 Things You Might Not Know About Leprechauns!
1 Leprechauns are nocturnal...just one of the reasons they are hard to find!
2 There is nothing a leprechaun cannot fix! Have you ever had something start working again after it had been broke for awhile? You might just have a leprechaun friend!
3 Leprechauns are despised in Ireland. In America, they are cute mischievous green elves, but to the Irish, they are nasty little creatures that wreak havoc!
4 Leprechauns are not the only little Irish elves...they have embarrassing cousins called Clurichauns that always drink too much and will ruin your wine cellar if you get on their bad side!
5 Leprechauns are lucky! If you are able to befriend one, it is said to bring much luck to you and anyone that lives in your home!
What do leprechauns look likeHow will I recognize a leprechaun?
Typically, a leprechaun is said to be a little old man that wears a green or red coat. They are thought to have beards and wear pointy hats...in fact, I read somewhere that they originally looked and dressed a lot like Santa Claus! There are differing views of the size of leprechauns. In America, it is commonly believed that they are very small, around 3 to 5 inches tall. But in Ireland, it is said that they are the size of a small child.
Patience Is The Key To Catching a Leprechaun!
After your leprechaun trap is built, hide it in some green foliage outdoors...or even in a big green potted plant if you prefer to stay indoors! The little leprechaun might just miss it and fall right into your trap in his attempt to get the gold!
Stay at a little distance and watch for the leprechaun to get a little bit of the bait in this hands (see below for ideas for baiting the little guy). Leprechauns will freeze under the stare of a human, especially if he is caught red-handed (or maybe green-handed in this case?) with the gold, making it easy to grab him!
5 Ideas For Leprechaun Bait
1 Catch the greedy leprechaun with gold coins ~ Or fake it with gold-wrapped chocolate coins! You could even spray beans, pebbles or wooden disks with gold paint to make them look like gold nuggets or coins!
2 Leprechauns are known to be attracted to rainbows, so decorate your trap with lots of colorful spectrums!
3 Lucky four-leaf clovers with bring the leprechauns running every time!
4 Put out a cup of Lucky Charms cereal...although not a traditional leprechaun bait, you never know when they might get hungry!
5 Yourself! Leprechauns love to pinch unsuspecting humans who aren't wearing green. So dress accordingly and put yourself in place!
The Care and Keeping of Leprechauns
Once you catch a leprechaun, you have to know how to take care of him!
The first thing you should do is build him a leprechaun house. They aren't too picky about their abodes, but make sure it's comfy and decorate it to his tastes...they love green and appreciate having a rainbow around!
Next, give him some food! Leprechauns like traditional Irish fare like Irish soda bread, hearty Irish stew and maybe a Traditional Irish Breakfast...make some of these things for yourself and then share it with him!
And lastly, keep him busy! Leprechauns are industrious little elves and love to fix things! Give him plenty of little projects around the house and he'll stay happy...and so will you!
Most importantly, don't let him get bored, hungry or uncomfortable...leprechauns can cause a lot of trouble if they are unhappy! But get on their good side, and you might just gain a friend...and the good luck that comes with him...for life!
So now you know. Top Tip: sell this to an American.............
