Amazing that DDC can find £100,000 pounds for beach huts at St Margret's. Yet last year I asked for extra parking where I live at Aycliffe .. It got pass the cabinet but it still in the pending tray...they said money was tight.

I think the Council are being shrewd here as there is a waiting list for beach huts in the district and St Margarets is overloaded with monied people who would pay over the odds to hire one out.

Sorry but as an Aycliffe resident I do not care about beach huts. We ask for extra parking last year in a petition but the DCC said they could only afford £20,000... and guess what they promised me they would contact me and walk around where I live to show them where extra parking could be put in place.. I am still waiting for that walk round from last year... Basically because we are not rich they are not interested and would not be a good investment..

I am not interested in renting a beach hut either but thankfully other people are and that will help bring revenue to DDC which will help keep our council tax down, providing free parking will not do that.

So you are saying because we are not rich and do not provide revenue you do not care...what we require is more parking space because people are parking on pavements etc.. which will soon be illegal. Now I know where the people of Aycliffe stand...

Where would the new parking spaces go? Which green spaces will they need to pave over?

I agree about losing some green spaces is bad but what do people want. Places to park or lost of some green spaces. Aycliffe was built before most people could afford cars. B
ut something does need to be done. Families now have more then one car sometimes three. This because siblings cannot afford to move out and everyone wants their own car to get to work. it is a fact of modern life now

The area at bottom of bank opposite st Patrick's rd would take a dozen or so and would cost very little financially and environmentally.

I do not know the area that Gary is talking about well enough to comment on that but all front gardens that have car space should be converted into parking if there are parking problems in that road.
We did away with ours and now have parking for three or four cars if needed while still having room for pots, wheelie bins and my well used bird feeder.

I know nothing about the parking situation in Aycliffe but from the various comments it seems similar to other parts of town where parking is woefully inadequate for the current population of drivers.
That said, the idea that blowing £100k on St.Margarets beach huts frankly beggars belief. Is that really a priority given the state of Dover town. Ah now wait. Who lives in St.Margarets?

My family ,anyway the beach huts are used ,some I am told are hired out to the same public each year they have been there many years, so why take them away?does not cost a lot to keep them looking OK, I do not know how much it cost to hire them but must have paid for themselfs by now and what that has to do with Aycliffe:? some 10miles awayI will never know.

I still maintain it is a sensible investment given the fact there is a waiting list and people are willing to pay these prices.

OK. I'm assuming that DDC own the huts? Let's see the return on investment figures then shall we? I won't be holding my breath.

On a lighter note how about some nice beach huts up near Gary so he can enjoy the view of the multitude of cars that are apparently struggling to find a parking space, whether he can afford to rent one is an entirely different conundrum.

Great idea Jan! They can double as environmentally-friendly portaloos for when TAP's on!

Of course you can Brian. No need to rent, buy a couple of these and place them in your garden, or on the pavement outside with the bins as it’s Aycliffe. Placed end to end with a little adjustment to the entrance and problem solved!

Do nothing and nothing happens.

What I am saying is that last year we asked for funding to help with providing more parking spaces at Aycliffe, they could only find £20,000 which they agree to. They said someone would come out to see me and see what could be done. This is still in the pending tray. Then suddenly they can find £100,000 for more beach huts. From what I can gather from some of the posts people would rather have beach huts and then extra parking at Aycliffe is not a good investment...most people up Aycliffe could not afford the cost of renting a beach hut..

It would be a good investment if they installed parking meters or parking only with permits.
