Should it be a public holiday as some would like or would it be a pain to have 5 bank holidays so close to each other?

At present we have a big gap where there are no Bank holidays from the end of May until the end of August, surely something big must have happened in mid July to warrant an annual day off work?

What about the length of time from the end of August until Christmas, a holiday is badly needed in that period around fireworks time would be ideal. We do not really need yet another one in the earlier period of the year.

How about Trafalgar Day on 21st October.
1) It celebrates one of our greatest naval victories.
2) It's guaranteed to piss off the French.
Sounds like a win/win to me?

Captain that is a brilliant idea, much better than November 5th which is often mentioned.

Every time over the last few years that the subject has come up Trafalgar day unsurprisingly comes to the fore. If we asked the people of working age I think they would prefer a day when the weather was more likely to be conducive to getting out and doing things. I did hear that Nelson plotted his battle in the middle of June.
M & S have a small display of English beers, ciders and whiskey in their store together with Pimms no.1. the snacks to go with it are Thai green curry flavoured crisps.

Sigh - everything's up in the air at home, so you lot are trying to wind-up the neighbours on both sides, one of whom can see my house from theirs. Meanwhile, news from a republic near you..

St George's Day ringing of Zeebrugge Bell today.Public toilets closed though. Now responsibility of Dover Town Team according to DDC. Doesn't encourage visitors.

This farce carries on year after year, I thought that the Town Council offices would be open for that purpose.

Perhaps if councillors at all levels locally, concentrated on providing the basic services we expect of them from our Council Tax, rather than pursuing mad schemes which they would never put their own money into or passing 'right on' motions about subjects they little understand, things would be just a tiny bit better for us all.

Jeff B, Dover Town Team is responsible for none of Dover's public toilets.
Button, my tongue planted very firmly in cheek. One of my main business clients is French and has a tremendous sense of fun.

Firstly, as Neil says, the Town Team do not run any toilets.
Secondly today was a DDC event according to their website but no advice given about facilities available on the day.
Thirdly the event did not exist on the DTC website, however common sense dictates that as the event took place directly outside their offices they should have got involved. Should they not want the peasants using their facilities then signs should have been put up and/or put on the order of service that the bogs in McDonald's, Biggin Street and Macari's, Pencester Road are free for anyone to use as DTC pay them for the privilege.
Fourthly human error is one thing but DTC and DDC between them through a mixture of apathy and laziness have let this happen year after year with no sign of things changing. They seem much more interested in the world of finance and real estate to show an interest in basic things.

If you look at DDC website it says arrangers are DTC
It doesn't answer your wider question but thought that might help
