Quite Peter.
Have a look a few hundred yards away and its a different story. Approx half a mile from the busiest port in Europe, close to the town centre is an expanse of land overgrown by 6 foot weeds.
No doubt they'll meet in their air conditioned offices, discuss their gold plated pensions and ruminate over what to do next.

Any eyesore removal in Dover is to be applauded, whoever does it.

I have heard all sorts of stories about this building - a basement that floods, a roof that leaks, not to mention the bird life that has moved in, so what happens now? This is not my field of expertise, just why are Weatherspoons allowed to let the building fall down around our ears?

all part of a long standing game of cat and mouse, the owners know exactly what they are doing.
every so often they bring out a planning application to show their "commitment" to the site and head off the demands for it's demolition.
the building is well past saving now.

I thought you knew Howard, it was in the local papers, that the dereliction of this building is being covered by paint and giant banners. All funding for this project has been raised from local businesses and hoteliers.

I think Adeline and the Hoteliers Group have worked very hard to "hide" this very unsightly, ugly building. Well done to them.
I do think as well though, that Wetherspoons should be shamed into doing something major with the building. As far as I am aware, they have put it up for sale; I guess because they now feel it will be just too expensive to do anything with, or that they just don't want to spend that money, although being so close to DTIZ, whover buys it will eventually make money.

the finished article split between "big local" and various tourist attractions. one small thing to mention is the first poster extols the virtues of maison dieu house but it is a working building and tourists cannot just wander in .

That looks so much better well done to all involved.
Maybe DDC should now consider a compulsory purchase order.
