Not slagging off PCSOs Keith, just wish they had more powers or should that be used the powers they have more often.

All smoke and mirrors when you ask the police anything officially. Speak to a good man on the ground and you might get some truth off the record.

You have to see them first Peter, they seldom seem to get as far as Charlton Centre area on foot only pass in cars.

our pcso can be seen often racing around his patch on foot.

I have no idea who our PCSO is, that is if we have one, the only law I see in the road where I live are police in their cars.

sarah p;
i apologise for my over re action, but i firmly believe the role of the P.C.S.O. is a vital one, if your aware this isn't happening you should report it, but first find out why they were talking there might have been good reason.
on the question of number of tickets issued in Dover i have no idea, and it isa good question to the superintendent in dover.
howard;
the powers i list are kent wide, so same in dover
jan;
i partly agree with your comment,
yes the powers they have should be better used
but new powers would need to be seriously thought out
pcso's are not policepersons nor should they be,
so any new powers would need careful consideration

No problem Keith context is difficult to judge on a forum. I admire your passion about the subject. Thanks for the details in the post outlining the powers of a pcso. Now all we need is the stats to see how often they are used.

sarah
doesn't move us away from the fact that its correct the pcso and police have a role to play.
but i firmly believe we have an education of joe public not to litter in the first place,
but also move away from the mamby pamby society where people cant be corrected for doing wrong.
teachers frightened to correct or unable to due to legislation and/or lack of abilty
parents either don't care or also legislation gets in the way giving to much power to children who do wrong
police to know they chase the same few villians who end up iun court get a few weeks community service then go and do it all again, and its a circle that goes round and round.
so sarah its a society wide thing, which needs drastic changes, but unlikely under this govt

Nothing to do with this or the last government just the way our society is going until respect in all its many forms is resurrected, hopefully when parents and teachers unite to teach it to the children.

I still want sanctions that exist to be used , its not an either or situation , there is nothing to stop both approches being used , Sanctions applied when the event occurs and education to reduce the frequency .
