I went to the lights out service Monday evening,a fair crowd turned up.people turned up,young, old etc.showed a lot of respect.youngsters who wernt taking part paused for a minute or two then carried on what they where doing.
there where a few idiots driving past playing loud music, shouting out of car windows etc.

St George's Day is the worst with young mum's pushing buggies past the standard bearers.

I suspect the "idiots" playing loud music were unaware of the event and the person who tooted their car horn wanted to show support, but got it wrong.
However a drunk was allowed to roam largely unchallenged, tarnishing the occasion, and a catcall from a passerby at just the time the speaker was recalling Edward Grey's famous words about the lights going out was especially ill-timed and ruined the moment.
Still, a good event nonetheless.

Whenever serious events are held on a public thoroughfare/pavement there will always be some ignoramus who fails to understand their significance to the participants.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

We do not go to many events any more just because of that .But we take part in our own way at home.
