Funny that. I've just been for a late afternoon swim and the rubbish on the beach is reaching epic proportions. I know DHB have won some ridiculous made up green award for reducing carbon dioxide or some such nonsense but the litter left by the happy, smiling day trippers is disgusting. Of course the DHB sub contractors tend to let the tide take out most of the rubbish so saving themselves lots and lots of money.
I went further up the seafront earlier and spent ten minutes removing a broken booze bottle from the concrete apron where swimmers sit to change and decided to use the pool instead.
That's the trouble - once the sun comes out so do the local chavs to ruin what could be the jewel in the crown of the town.

not like you to be cynical philip, we all know that crowds of people tend to leave litter behind.
as we know bobby g and his fellow directors will as ever be up at the crack of dawn tomorrow to clear up the mess.
local chavs?

Truly Howard, it is appalling. The trouble is that it's been like this for years now. Even a change of contractors has made no difference whatsoever. You're right, of course, it's not just the locals who are responsible but knowing full well how much rubbish is discarded during the day you would think that DHB might spend a few more pounds on employing someone to pick up this rubbish at the height of the season? No of course not! This costs money and the shareholders, directors or who takes the profits from DHB wouldn't want to waste money on keeping the beach clean.
I mean they haven't even replaced the missing bins from the beach!!!!!
How's that for the height of selfishness?
The funny thing is that the green bins that are left ( two or three for the whole beach) are secured to a wooden post by one two inch screw. That is how tight DHB really are. They are not willing to spend money on an extra screw and washer.
The sooner they are kicked out and the People's port comes to fruition the better.
They have no interest in the town at all.

we will have to agree to disagree philip, were some idyllic moments today though.
on the downside this poor chap was suffering from the heat and couldn't summon up the energy to bite lumps out of me.
on the face of it this looks like a ferry from the peninsular and oriental chaps belching fumes.
upon closer inspection you will see it is from the ship behind and we can just pick out ed connell on a smoke break.

Agree to disagree on what Howard? That there is not loads of rubbish strewn all over the beach and promenade? Why on Earth would I possibly make this up? What is there to disagree on otherwise?

Oh I see so we should aim to bring our beach down to the same level as other resorts Howard? It all makes sense now.
Which other so called resorts have you visited lately? Can you name them?

the margate sandy beaches are nice, but the noise from the arcades can be a distraction.

Splendid pictures above there Howard, showing just how crowded the beach was earlier in the day
I must say that when we were there later in the day there was a fair amount of rubbish strewn around. We certainly could do with some more litter bins on the beach although this does not excuse those who leave their litter behind, we took ours to the nearest bin by the beach cafe. One would like to think that people took more pride in their lovely seafront but there are always the few!
I must also say that the people responsible for picking up the litter at the end of each day do a splendid job, not a sight of any early next morning

Deal Beach has been packed all weekend and lots enjoying themselves on our beach front pubs. Shame I did not have my camara.

dover and deal seafronts are two very different entities in my view, deal is best viewed from the pier looking at the town whilst dover is best facing the other way seeing all the action out on the sea.
i much prefer looking out at the ferries, berthed cruise ships and freighters and tankers further out plus the odd surprise visitor that paulb spots from his penthouse.
whatever our preference we are lucky to live in a district with so much to see.

i have seen a gurkha concert but many others have not had the privilege.
