I suppose I think we should manage our online profiles better! I think it is understandable if an organisation checks out an online profile before hiring - an individuals reputation can impact on that of the organisation. I also think if we have genuine beliefs or drivers we should stand up and be counted. The trick is to balance the two. And frankly, if a teacher thinks it is ok to tacitly promote boozing on a public site s/he may need to re-visit their perceptions of the job.

BERN;
I don't think the teacher promoted drinking, just the employer saw the profile of the teacher with a glass of wine in the foreground.
hope this doesn't mean your an outast if you drink such bevarages, wont do much for employers and would think it affects most of the poopulation, and of course threres the knock on affect if all employers took this view on who could they employ, and what about the drink industry

Most large employers have a policy on social networking sites , there can be many pitfalls for both sides .
Many people have their employer listed on the profile ie MAry Bloggs employed by XXX NHS Trust , if then the posts go to list a series of illegal events or less than proffesional attitudes then the employer could claim that they have been brought into disrepute and investigation could follow .
The NMC ( the nursing regulator ) have just issued guidance to the use of social networking as there are instances where it can lead to investigation by the regulatory body

sarah;
maybe not listing your profession is agood idea.
but employers deciding they want want you because you drink a bevarage maybe even in moderation is quite different.
but it goes on to say some views may also exclude you.
doesn't bode good for this so called free society everyone claims we live in

I think some of the freedom may lie in deciding what is appropriate to post publically and what is not .

Looking at the article, it seems like the usual nonsense from the Mail. "don't do anything, because you might die" scaring the public into a state of stupidity.
Personally I would sack anyone with a profile picture or status making any reference to the Daily Mail.
Teachers promoting alcoholism is unacceptable; but promoting ignorance, intolerance and bigotry is far worse!
