- 23 April 2011 17:53103133Crossing over from the Zeebrugge ceremony thread, as Howard has commented on, this was the scene today after the 2 minutes silence as prayers were being said for our current serving armed forces from the balcony of the town hall towards the parade.
Later saw a postie in his Royal Mail uniform dodging to get past the band as the national anthem was being played.
- 24 April 2011 11:10103226Trouble is that no-one is held accountable for their actions these days. In the old days the local bobby would have had a word and if the guilty party was a young person would be grabbed by the ear and taken home, where no doubt he\she would be given a thick ear by their parents to add to their woes. Nowadays it is more than a policeman's career is worth to lay so much as a finger on anyone and parents are not allowed to smack their children. I know we cannot allow abuse but I certainly remember that I never again repeated the action that had merited a smack!
- 24 April 2011 11:24103227Same with schools- I am tired of teachers blaming parents when they themselves have no control with the kids at school. Even in reasonable households like ours (hopefully) there are control issues, God knows how they manage with the less reasonable households!! Before teachers start bleating about parents they need to get their own sanctions in order. I have been waiting, and have sent 3 prompts, to our girls grammar school to arrange an informal chat about my youngests prospects - no response. And I had to ask for a confirmation that they had received my emails as I had no response to them either, oven an extended period of time. Even when I arranged for a free copy of Modern Muse to be sent to the school for their library I had no acknowledgement. Courtesy goes both ways and sadly what I see does not encourage me to believe that is the case.

I have spent a lot of time going into schools to talk to the children, many in Dover
and have found differing forms of abilities.
often i would be expected not only to control the class as the teacher was unable, or dare i say unwilling.
there was one school i went into where all the children were polite, all the children held doors open for you, all the children listerned,
but sadly that school was a one off.ALL POSTS ARE MY OWN PERSONAL VIEWS
