This is the new Portuguese restaurant on London road in what used to be Little Rascals.
I visited the other day to try it out, the chef and the owner are lovely very welcoming and the service was fantastic.
The main menu is fairly basic and to be honest a little safe but very competitively priced at £3 for starters, deserts and baguettes and £5 for mains, the only Portuguese dish on this is the Piri Piri chicken. However it is on the daily specials priced at either £5 or £8 where one sees the Portuguese influence come to the fore, I had the Haddock Portuguese style, which was not only a very generous portion but also very tasty, with flambéed bananas and ice cream for desert.
Overall probably a 3 out of 5 - but for price alone it is certainly worth a visit

i hope they try more portuguese stuff, some of the finest food you can get once you are in the real portugal away from the algarve.
cod bakalal or something like that is a masterpiece of cuisine.
Ive been as well Ross , I had the Haddock and my husband had the special of thepork loin in mustard sauce , both where fantastic , really lovely couple who run it , As you said it is a bit limited but so friendly , The only drinks where , beer , wine or coke , no cofee avaliable but they will develop as they get more customers . Very good value for money and the bannanas where amazing

Sounds worth a go, especially if they're open at lunch times.

Been shut down by the council for hygiene reasons so i have just been told. The kitchen and back areas are shocking and full of all kinds of horrid stuff. Only what i've been told mind from someone at the council.

Apparently a notice on the window saying that it has been closed by the Council as no hot water in the kitchen and that the kitchen was "unsound" whatever that means

Usually means not up to the strict hygiene laws especially if there is no hot water.

Iv'e been in catering all my life and believe me times have changed you wouldn't believe what i have to fill out each day. HACCP I won't bore you. But if there is no evident s of this you are in serious trouble. Not to have hot water is unacceptable.
The thing is is that we never think of this when we go abroad.
I'll leave this thought with you it bad enough the amount of people who go to the toilet without washing there hands is bad enough but not to have any hot water to do it with is just as bad!
NICE!!!

Is it going on the "Restaurant Guide"
Seriously there is nothing worse than somewhere nice then you find this out but rules are rules. They could have been open for years and nothing then one day ...

Relieved to hear that Ross, SarahP and Hubby are ok and suffering no ill effects
They shut down restaurants in an instant if the hygiene is not up to spec, so this would seem to be the case and hot water is certainly compulsory in all restaurants
