Heavy police presence on the seafront. Streets are taped off and cordoned off..main road cordoned off. Toilets taped up..lot of police cars. They have blocked Townwall Street and the exit from the docks too.
I saw nothing or heard nothing but noticed this just now.
some windows reflections on this pic.

I wonder if it is perhaps some Royal visit..although why would they tape off the loo??
This is just a few of the officers on show. Other street exits manned also..including carpark and exit from Premier Inn and exit from The Gateway.

I just went down to have a word with a policeman he said a device has been found..
I tried to approach but they got very irritated and told me to get back.

The police are there following reports that a bunch of ''travellers''.. conned the council into having a perfectly good road dug up and then relaid. The travellers told the council they had some tarmac left over from a job filling potholes in the town.
The police want to question a ruddy face councillor seen recently driving a newly purchased car.

Sue no he didnt say where although someone said it might be in the docks, although again why everything would be cordoned off here on the seafront if it was in the docks I dont know.
The police told me to get back. They werent amused when I tried to approach...so it could be in the public loo as its cordoned off. But there is no activity around the loo.
Lets hope it amounts to nothing.
lol! Marek. I wonder if Nigel has in fact seen the join in the tarmac.

If the police are by the toilets it wont be there as they put these cordons up as a safe distance away from the device.

No police around the toilets Keef. The toilets can be seen in the top shot. The traffic still running on far side of carriageway going towards the docks. This side of main road heading west is blocked off. Everyone seems to be giving the toilets a wide berth.

PAULB;
It's one of those dilema's do you stop everything and take precautions in case it is real and a terrorist threat, or do you just carry on in the hope it isn't whatever you do, you will be wrong in someones eyes.
I always recall when i worked on british rail a suspect package on a train which had wires coming out of it.
I recall the sgt of the railway police coming out seeing the package went to open it.
i shouted hang on mate if your doing that i need time to get out of the way in case you get it wrong.
99 times out of 100 you get it right, but that 1 time your lifes gone
is it worth it? im afraid i call others i would never open one.
but on the other side of the coin i recall a violin case being found at dover priory and this was in the height of the terrorist attacks so no chances were taken and the army bobm disposal called, very good to watch the remote controlled dog go through doors just as it got to the case just about to blow it up(remember all trains stopped, police everywhere, station cordoned off)
a boy and girl come round the corner past priory hotel bemused they ak if anyone has seen her violin case, she was so perplexed after seeing what had gone on.

Yes always a tricky dilemna knowing what to do. This time they are not taking any chances. At this moment Richard Mahoney's boat is doing a tour of the harbour but the police are waving him away with some urgency as I speak...clearly not wanting him to come too close to the toilets.

I have also heard that it is a suspect package in the port, though can't confirm that this is true.

The bomb disposal guys have arrived. A policeman points out to the officer where the device is...
Yes traffic stopped heading west on dual carriageway. Traffic heading east still running.
