But then is River actually Dover? I have five work colleagues who live in River and Temple Ewell and they refuse point blank to admit they live in Dover! Don't get me wrong, I consider it Dover but they get so cross when I argue the point!
It's part of the area's problem.
River was a village like Charlton and Buckland before it. now it's part of Dover
Why is there a thread about a Sandwich by-election on this forum anyway.

No it is not .I think I will hire a hall and sit you disbelievers down and explain.Meanwhile in 1987 River elected its first River Parish Council. The District Councillors are not part of Dover .We donot sit on The Dover Town CouncilWe have our own Chairman and he or she wears a chain of office. We have two Village signs one each end of the village. We are supported by the KALC.We hold our own remembrance services. We have our own Parish precept .River does not contribute to the Dover Town Council precept thank god .
Dover Town Council elects it’s Councillors but that does not give then a seat on DDC .
The River Parish Council status was decided in 1987 by the Boundary Commission .The first Council was elected in April 1987 it has ten members.
I cannot draw a map on my computer .The ward of St Radigunds starts in Crabble Avenue .Which is within the Boundary of Dover. We are surrounded by the Parishes of Alkham,Temple Ewell and Hougham, and Whitfield .So you dis believers I’m willing to give you a lecture .I was trained as an Instructor ,

The only people who ever say River is not part of Dover are those who live in River, nobody else really cares enough to seriously debate the point.
Maybe in future we should all be pedantic and call it a suburb of Dover.

Surely if it's part of Dover why would anyone call it River, come to think of it why do we have an an Aylesham or a Shepherdswell, is Temple Ewell part of River or part of Dover? (they are all very close after all). I've always considered it a seperate place hence why I use its name River, the village of River or River Village, most I know have the same view, but like Jan "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn."

I don’t care really .I know my rates are lower than Dover Town Council.I think our RPC do very well on the small amount they collect .

Ooooh I've hit a raw nerve about River haven't
I
Probably why I've never heard of all the good things done by you Sue, because it was none of my business, as I live in Dover and not River!
I have to say, it's a bit strange to go on about what you've done for Dover when you don't live in Dover.....
Out of interest, what do River people put on their delivery address? Dover, River or both?
