That's what you call a real Christmas advert with a true meaning. Well done Sainsbury's

Sorry but I do not think it is a good one in fact I think it should be taken off.
To make a advert out of a event that cost 1000s of lifes is wrong

The profits from the chocolate bar featured in the advert go to the British Legion, so the British Legion will receive 50p for every bar sold.

For once a company is not trying to make a profit out of what has now become a commercial time of the year. They are not trying to push their turkeys or gifts, they are just asking you to buy a bar of chocolate and 50p will go to the British Legion. Its not in bad taste as it shows an event that actually happened. I would imagine a lot of young folk know nothing about this event so not only is it for a good cause its educational too, and really makes you think. The only major retailer who's made the Centenary the focus!! May we always remember!!!

The story behind it

I harbour doubts about the thinking behind this as it comes after they announced profits fall and planned new supermarkets were put on hold.

I am with David B on this one... I think all supermarkets in for a tough ride... just look at tesco... even worse than sainsburys.

I am a member of the R.B.L.and they could have just used their name and left Sainsburys out of it,Yes we do need all the funding we can get but I do not agree this is one of the ways to get it,will it stop there or are we going to see D.DAY. and other war events. It will be a tin of beans next the army lived on them..

I fail to see anything wrong with Sainsbury's name being on screen for a few seconds right at the end of a very long advert that they will have paid £1000's to make and show, remember this is also an advert for the British Legion whose name is also shown on screen.
I say a shouted WELL DONE to Sainsbury.

I think the event depicted here is a very strong and important. We should not forget any of the people who died in this or any other conflict. This is an important message, but when questioning the integrity of the video, one thing cannot be overlooked:
IT IS A CHRISTMAS ADVERT FOR A SUPERMARKET.
No, they are not showing what they sell; yes, it is a very powerful depiction of a historical event; yes, money is going to charity; but the bottom line is Sainsbury's are using the emotion evoked by a very serious event, to promote their company. I don't see this as wrong, just a little cheap.
It is also worth pointing out that it is a complete rip-off of the music video to "Pipes of Peace" by the king of integrity himself, Sir Paul McCartney.

Sorry to be cynical but all the big supermarket chains are struggling for market share and normally loss leaders are brought in to attract customers, especially in the run up to Christmas. Sainsbury's have wrong footed the opposition by appealing to our better nature this time. People don't go into supermarkets to buy a bar of chocolate, one will simply be added to their trolley.
Having said all that it is good that the British Legion will get this funding boost.
