Luckily I live in town so get 6 collections a week,a road sweeper and a street washing vehicle daily. The only problem is they trundle pass our house at 6am onwards !!
I won't mention the daily private recyclying Portuguese empty wine and beer bottle collectors...what a din

On the Radio Kent phone in this morning Wayne from Dover said he had been informed by a Councillor that DDC were going to fortnightly collections for your normal bin and if you did not want the wheely bins you did not have to have them and you would be issued with black sacks instead? not sure if it was accurate but he was adamant, did anyone else hear it?

Yes I heard it Martin, but you as I understand it will keep black sacks only if your property doesnt allow wheelie bins,eg opens up on to pavement, severe steps or flats although I have heard of wheelie bins being delievered to flats and then taken away the next day.
I have also heard that the same flats have 2 kitchen caddies for food waste between 12 flats so it seems confused. My problem is while Veolia are looking at the properties to see if they can take wheelies they cannot see if the people behind the doors are disabled old or blind.
You can appeal against your wheelie bins but again things seemed confused as I have heard this takes upto 6 weeks for an assement and then it is done over the phone.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for that JHG , sounds like Wayne may have heard the bits he wanted to in his conversation with the Councillor.

Just back from Corfu, Greece, there were collections every day but no sign of any recycling though, everything went in the same truck. food, paper, plastics and cans.

would it be the same outside of the tourist season though alec?
in summer domestic waste would be a health hazard in that heat.

For some reason my dustbin was not emptied on Thursday but the top two carrier bags of rubbish had gone.
When I phoned the council I asked when we would be getting our wheelies and was told the middle of NOVEMBER. Are the blinking things being made by hand for heavens sake.

I believe when refuse collections were first made, they were once a month and the refuse was largely ashes from the fire. We have come a long way since then!!!!
Nothing was wasted, let alone food - it all went to animals, dogs, chickens, pigs.

We have got our wheelie bins this week. It does not seem TOO complicated! But they need more space.
For those people who can't put their bins outside of their property, if you contact the Council they will get a form to you to give them permission to go onto your property for the bin.

Pickles knee jerk policies cause total confusion and anger to Local Authorities. His first `advice`( more like instruction ) was for Councils to collect rubbish every two weeks. An enormous amount of work and expenditure is taken on by Councils to accommodate these instructions. Then he declares his `Conference piece of £ 250,000,000 .The man is a buffoon and incompetent.
He asked his wife Irene how he did.Her reply was``The good news is you looked a bit thinner. The bad news is you were Crap.``
All crap should go to the land tip site...................As soon as possible please.

Brian i would post a picture of my mum and dads ones.. but alas i have left the camera at home..
they have theirs.
We have them in Faversham although I live in a flat, I have mine on the street sensibly on the pavement and people use them as they walk through which is fine as we dont use enough to produce that much, infact, if anything we recycle so much we have to trundle across the road to share a neighbours bin, but we have one week green bin, one week blue bin (recycling) and that works really well!

Eric Pickles has announced a £250m fund to help reduce the enormous amounts of empty crisp packets, chocolate wrappers and pie trays that accumulate outside his house.
The quarter of a billion pound fund is seen as a priority ahead of the NHS, Education and Defence, after pickles insisted it's embarrassing having so much food packaging in bags outside his residence.
Pickles told reporters, "This announcement is great news for people who regularly fill bags with things that used to contain various food products."
"Fortnightly collections simply aren't enough if you're someone who eats the standard eight meals a day, plus snacking."
"I have listened to my complaints, and now we're addressing them. This move will certainly please me."
Tax payers have welcomed the news, claiming that not having to be more efficient with their waste disposal will save them literally minutes each week.
One told us, "I know £250m could do a lot for health care in this country, but when you weigh that up against no longer having to crush empty cans, or squeeze the air out of plastic bottles it's a no brainer."
"And they're doing something about speed limits on the motorways too? It's as if the government has got a high-profile conference coming up or something."

I had a DDC, sorry we missed you, recycle for Dover leaflet put through my letterbox last Friday afternoon, informing me that I will soon receive new containers and an information pack. The leaflet includes a phone number, email and website details to contact for more information if needed. Apparently they are also staging roadshows to help residents understand how to use the new recycling and waste service
