Even more local, the on-the-water experience for their RYA courses is being done at Dover Sea Sports Centre. A group of them were down there a few weeks ago when I was doing a course, our local seal surprised them by popping up in the middle of their dinghies to see what all the noise was about.

This is a great project and one of the first physical evidences of building our area into a centre of excellence in the maritime and ports sector. The next big thing will be breaking ground at the Maritime Training Centre next to Viking's offices. Really exciting developments moving forwards in providing training and opportunity for our youth.

Cream o' the crop.
I make a royal visit to my throne
each and every day
I enjoy the benefits of habit
though it's not the only way
I preside in a solitary mode
a stag that's not at bay
lord of all I do behold
sire of all that I survey
A Briton in his Castle
as a Lion in his den
far off from any hassle
with a crossword and a pen
My realm is but a closet
held fast against all foe
my largesse is unstinting
upon all that are below
A cat may well view a King
a sleeping dog can dream
But for each fundamental aching
there is a proprietary cream
Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.

Invitation only, very tight security and, supposedly, only those invited were supposed to know in advance.

Your post no. 4 Neil, is a very big step for Dieter and for Dover and will make a great deal of difference to Dover and many types of businesses here.
A Centre of Maritime Excellence is just what Dover needs and will raise our profile enormously, but we as a Town, must then move up and live up, to that and until the Town Team get the appropriate funding for a Town-Team Manager - and appoint one, nothing will change.
The Town and District Councils are working on Section 215s, so the fabric of the buildings will start to improve and make a difference, it's then the fabric of the Town itself than needs moving forward.

Deary me Roger, I'll ask you a direct question:
Where will the Town Team, or any other body, find the money to fund a Town Centre Manager?
On so many different threads you bring up the same old subject but you simply don't have the solution. As we've discussed many times, if you can find the funding for a Town Centre Manager nobody will stand in your way.

On a more positive note the new college is a great move for Dover, as I mentioned on another thread people like Neil Wiggins are the lifeblood of the town, putting in time and energy for little or no return.
If we had a town full of Neils we wouldn't have a problem.

Blushing now

The Maritime Training Centre is all down to Dieter and his team, I've done little more than cheer from the sidelines. When the time arrives and I can do more, I will, but until then Dieter and the team at Viking have invested their own time and their own money and are the ones who deserve all the credit on the MTC and as being the catalyst which is beginning to launch the Dover area as the centre of excellence that it will become.

Neil, my point as really aimed at Roger who continually bangs the drum about a Town Centre Manager. The reality is a) there is no money and b) extremely capable people will give their time and expertise at no cost, if they believe what they are doing is in a good cause.

Ironic that the horsey one should visit Walmer Sec;s new centre when the school is soon to be shut down in an act of flagrant 'restructuring'.
