I understand this venue is to be closed. This venue has been used by the Black fish academy The Dover Youth Theatre and various other organisations.
It has shown the talent of so many people .A surperb venue.I gather KCC want to turn the space into offices,
Meanwhile Consultants are once again dreaming up pie in the sky ideas .for Western Heights
What better way to embrace the memory of Vera Lynn by keeping this theatre going.?

Bloody brilliant. You couldn't make it up.
Half the world working from home. The financial pages full of falling commercial rents and applications for changes of use from 'commercial' to 'residential'.
Now KCC wish to turn a theatre which is much used by the locals (and let's face it, how many towns still have a theatre rather than a hall which can occasionally be hired by the local am dram) into OFFICES.
For Heaven's sake - just how stupid are our County Councillors?
Time to roll out random drug tests to Maidstone as well as Fort Whitfield methinks ...................
Petition here?

The Roundhouse is not only a theatre it is also (or was) a wedding venue.
I sometimes wonder whether the councillors live in the same world as the rest of us.

I have received responses from two County members.Looks like it’s a done deal .The Discovery Centre needed a lot of work done on it .Still never say die

I accept the building might need a lot of work to be done but that does not mean the money could not be spent improving the existing facilities rather than going for change of use.
I am not surprised is is virtually a done deal, these things usually only become public knowledge once everything has been decided, normally without public consultation. The so called improved Market Square plan being shining example.

It is also the job of the unelected in KCC or DDC etc to inform the people who actually pay their wages what is planned behind their tightly closed doors. I sometimes get the impression that everything is decided and councillors are given virtually no or very little choice, Big Brother has spoken.

I have been saying this for many years Jan
We get To a position of councillors who are not around most of the time at county hall, or Whitfield , so the unelected officers fill that gap.
So we see these unelected officials not carrying out the policies of the elected cllrs but instead running there own agenders
Really it doesn't make much difference what political party runs the councils
