I have just seen an interview with the woman from the above council regarding the removal of a three siblings from their foster carers purely because of their UKIP membership. Has the world gone totally mad or hopefully just this one stupid council Social Services Department?

Not seen the story Jan, but so much for the original placement of the children, if they are deemed unfit now then surely they were when the children were placed with them? has to be more to it than political views surely?

"Three children were removed from the care of a married couple because social workers were concerned about their "cultural and ethnic needs".
The South Yorkshire foster parents claimed they had been told Ukip - which campaigns for British withdrawal from the European Union and tougher controls on immigration - was "racist"."

This is daft to the extreme, the children have been with their foster carer's for 6 weeks, the disruption that the three children will experience must be upsetting. To remove children who come from an 'EU' background just because the foster parents are members of UKIP is a ridiculous case of 'Big Brother' watching you

The children's ages were not mentioned in the report this morning so let us hope that it will not affect them.
Nigel Farage has offered to speak to Rotherham Borough Council today, but I will think that it is more of a PR coup for his party, utter madness, what next, take children away from their foster parents because they are vegetarians?

........now if they were members of greenpeace or WWF I could quite well understand the councils decision but this is daft.

bsrry is right about it being a pr coup for ukip if the foster parents were racist they would not have taken in the children in the first place.
the children are being used as political pawns.

In the real word the social workers would be sacked for this politically driven balls up.
But in the word of the public sector ,they will get a soft softy letter and retraining in avoiding controversy by coming up with non controversial reasons to get there loony left decisions processing over.

Yes, the Social Services were misguided in considering UKIP as an overtly racist group and it was a mistake to remove the children from this couple as they had a good track-record for fostering (it has to be 'good' for it to be a track-record at all).
It is a pity that one eye had to be kept on the likely future comments of a court. Why the case of these children ever went to court in the first place is the mystery.
It is a shame that Social Services cannot be left alone to concentrate on the well being of children without being shot-down from all directions.
Yet again the children take second place on an issue where they should be central.

#9, Tom I agree with most of that. The reason Social Services can't be left alone to get on with their work in secret (for that is how they operate) is because the system has demonstrated over and over again that it just cannot be trusted to produce outcomes which are both fair to parents and in the best interests of the children.

I also agree Peter.
Putting it bluntly Tom if they did not make a complete hash (polite version) of things as they have in Rotherham they could be.
I believe....when they are good they are very very good but when they are bad they are horrid..... is apt.

Red Council, Blue Council...sometimes you just have to take the rough with the rough...
" the police: no criminal offence had been committed..."
"...Meanwhile, the council leader, Nick Rushton, has now launched a fresh "investigation": the Tory group chief whip will report back by Christmas Eve... "
Perhaps a friend bought the Telegraph today?

Mind you the Prime Minister hasn't helped things after his deep and thoughtful musings on UKIP:
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/ukip-are-closet-racists-says-cameron-472769.html
Of course the pigeons or foxes or budgies are coming home to roost so he's performed another glorious U-turn on his views according to some news outlets.
Another day another U-turn eh?
By the way Brian that was a joke. Find out who you connect to when you phone the telephone number or better still google it and save yourself the price of a phone call.

Seems a silly situation, if that is the only reason the council officers made this decision then they were wrong

All Councils are Officer lead ........Councillors many times do not what is going on until it happens .....no excuse....
members should be proactive at all times especially with children issues .....we are all corporate parents.............
