Very good Howard. It's a 'riot of colour' down on the seafront too with all the flower beds a delicious shade of mudddd. Not a flower in sight, even the famed Norwegian Flag is just plain mud. Perhaps they are in between planting or something. But a bit of a pity as there was an upsurge in visitor numbers in the hotels and on the seafront generally this weekend...would be nice if they could have seen us all aflame in glorious colour.

It's a shame there is no planting in the Market Square and that the fountain is boarded up, especially now that this season's cruise ship calls have started. Tomorrow sees the arrival of the AIDASol, a brand new ship on its maiden voyage. We really need to smarten the place up if Dover is to ever really capitalise on tourism spend. I wonder what feedback the cruise lines get from passengers who come into the town?

I will watch for that ship Kevin, a maiden voyage sounds exciting indeed, yes there is a great flurry of activity with visitor numbers well up at the moment. An early boost due to all this glorious sunshine I expect, so yes it is a pity that our flower beds and fountain are lacklustre.
Just a quick snap out the window as I write...
No flowers today.

The beds in Market Square have been left fallow for a few months and will be planted up in June.
Its the way it works in the country fields left to fallow and then a good crop ensured the following year .
I dont think the DTC contibute to the flowers anymore DDC pick up the tab .
The parks out here River and Temple Ewell are truly lovely .Lots of visitors at the weekend .

you are right about the ones near action carpets, unfortunately that is not the direction that our visitors go.
susan
again none of our visitors see the parklands, it is vital that the fountain is open and flowerbeds in use to give that vital first impression to people from the cruise and ferry terminals.

i say it how i see it, praise and criticism when each applies.

Very few farmers leave the ground with nothing planted, fallow usually means the field is grassed and livestock provide the natural fertilizer.

Ding! Think I have the answer. We have bare earth where there should be flowers and no public bogs where there should be public bogs.
Why not install a row of earth closets on the bare earth? Then we have public bogs and, come planting time, fertilised earth. Everyone's a winner!

Hey Howard
Think you would be surprised how many people walk up and down castle street, nearly ran over quite a few of them over this morning as they didnt look when they walked out on the junction by the vets... and then had the cheek to look afronted when i tooted my horn at them!
could go cross threads with this and go by the time they have walked up from the seafront and past that "thing" on the seafront they will have already made a decision about Dover anyhows ...

first you say that d.d.c are respnsible, then you tell us to lobby our town councillors.
what relevance has ewell minnis and everden have to the town centre?

the debate rages over who should organise any floral displays in town.
this photo of weeds was taken in pencester gardens this afternoon.
the two below were taken outside the town council offices about 10 minutes later.
