This corner has alas alas been the kiss of death for culinary enterprise. There have been a number of triers, but for huge periods of time the corner just remains dark, forlorn, gloomy and grim. The propects are not rose coloured for anyone new there, but you have to wish them well.

Spruced up? a tad more than that is needed by the looks of it.

looks worse there in the picture the fascia has been chipped off one assumes for a new one to be added.
at the bottom the blotches are filler in preparation for repainting, the inside looks in good condition.

It was interesting to see the stone arches that were uncovered on the left hand side windows, as you say Ron it would be nice to know what it was originally.

the fifties, the place on the corner was the Hope Inn, used to do very well, the place next door was grilli's snack bar also done very well, these places used to stay open until around midnight, when the pubs chucked out Grilli's did a roaring trade

That's what my dad told me, he knows someone who's doing some of the work in there.
In reference to Sheila Amos's post regarding the Hope Inn that used to be part of the building, can anyone else remember this or better still have any pictures of it?
Reason I'm asking is that I am continuing the research of Barry Smith's list of Dover public houses, and haven't come across this one at all yet and would dearly love to add yet another to my ever increasing list.
The only Hope Inn in Dover I know of so far was situated at 2 Great Street and opened from between 1819 and 1913.

Hello Paul, welcome to the forum, where have you been hiding these last 2 or 3 years?
