Howard I didn't see you taking that shot, I must have been to busy ordering my wreath to go on my scooter, this coming week must also get my crosses for the navy and Royal artillery, the relatives are not on this memorial, one is on the Suda Bay memorial and the other Chatham, plus I must get one for my little civilian mate Sheila also not on memorial, gone but never forgotten

Thanks for posting this thread Howard;Diana and Peter have already been working hard for this year's poppy appeal and will continue for the rest of the week. Hope weather stays fine for them. Dover Town council gave a grant for the new crosses to Mark the commemoration of WW1.

Should a female Mayor be addressed as Madam Mayor in England Mr mcsweeney or has Dover another Mayor now?

A lovely addition was made to the memorial garden yesterday, a local Knit and Natter group have threaded a chain of woollen red poppies along the front and back rail and all round the nearby tree. Look beautiful.,not sure how to,take a photo for this site.

I note that the Mercury is advising people to be at the Memorial on Sunday by 09.30. Er, I should leave it for another hour if I were you!

The knitted poppies certainly add something to the display.

They look lovely.Simple but effective.Makes me think of the poem I read at Fly the Flag service .Whilst knitting or maybe crochet you can think of all those who have died.

shame about the black crosses should have been kept white.

This a British Legion decision; new crosses were needed for Dover and DTC provided a grant for them to be purchased.

Those knitted poppies look good which is more than I can say for the black crosses, like Brian I preferred the white as they had more impact. Sorry British Legion but I think you got that decision wrong.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

I think it is nice, certainly adds contrast with the smaller white crosses that people have placed.
