interesting that ross posts that he is on the left.
but on the views in hand, yes the labour party is still getting funds from the unions
(as are the tories from business's)
ross, your view on unions starting there own party, m ex union(the RMT) stopped sponsoring there mp's unless they did things to the benefit of the union.
since this view was formed and carried out the rmt has been kicked out of the tuc
because they are seen to hold a left view.
howard is correct that before tony blair, labour were unelectable, and many in the party were happy to be a party of protest.
but along came kinnock who started the move to make big change to the party
expelling members of the militant party(operating within the labour party)
and then blair who saw the only way to gain power was to move towards middle england.
im no great fan of blair, but as howard says he did some good(not enough for some of us)
cameron and milliband have seen this and trying to steal each others ideas
in middle england to be seen as a popular party.
politics is slowly changing, it's which party grasped the nettle that could romp to victory, but most just tinker round the edges
