07:4970212After standing at the barrier in Market Sq to watch the ever so slight carnival trundle by...which took all of 6 minutes...I was nevertheless exhausted, worn out, fagged out and in needing of inner soul replenishment so I made my way to the White Horse dreaming of what might have been...
and as you can see I was surrounded and mobbed by groupies. I have no idea who any of them are but they pennned me into the seat and kept buying me drinks so I didnt put up much resisitance
Also in the bar were young man about town the
irresistible Ian Lillford who took the pic
nitro Nigel Collor propping up the bar and regaling us about long days at the KCC
terror Trevor Bond in grumble mode re carnival
and posh bountiful Barry W-S who put his hand in his wallet to cast a few copels to those in penury.
We conjured up quite a carnival party mood. Its surprising what several drinks will do!
Alas young Jeanette didnt make an appearance propably knackered somewhere. We were all in the mood for large dinners so would have spent even more but no food on...sigh! We were saved by the delicious Castle Street chippie in the end where we dined al fresco sort of.

09:5170237I had Wild Mushroom Risotto followed with a Rib-Eye Roast at the Prince Albert. Both excellent and home-made, thoroughly recommended. Sunday roasts out are largely a disappointment when eating out but this wasn't. It's a different atmosphere in the pub now after the refurbishment. Good singer/guitarist on after the carnival parade had gone past too.

The girls ,as always, look lovely. You lucky man you...breaks out in Tommy Trinder accent ( alright I know it was you lucky people you..poetic licence) but surely no amount of alcoholic beverage is a good enough excuse for having a copy of the Daily Express on your pub table

20:0570361We had a great time in pleasant company after the 'carnival', the Daily Express was already on the table, it came in handy as an extra large beer mat

The chippy afterwards was a nice end to a slightly hazy evening

21:1170390It was sad, but rumours are circulating that your pictures show the queens walking the streets, the Town council did donate £2,000 last year and this year for a float.
Sid did speak on behalf of the carnival.
So i'm sure he can re assure us there is no truth in this rumour

21:2370392The Queen`s did sadly walk the street`s from what I heard this morning Keith, from two different sources. Apparently, the Dover`s carnival queen`s appeared in Deal`s carnival, but because of that, were prevented from using a float in Dover due to some sulking and political issue from someone organising the carnival in Dover! I`m out of my depth on this issue, so cannot comment any further, but I was disgusted on hearing all this from, as I said, two different sources!

21:2970394Keith I think you were on here when we had all that nastiness between the old and new carnival commitees?
Things got very fraught on here until Paul stopped it.
One thing that has puzzled me is why do we have two carnival courts with two lots of queens and princesses? Is this not a bit strange?

Yes it did turn nasty, but taxpayers doh £2,000 was given for a float, unless sid can tell us otherwise>???????
On the 2 carnivals, I'm no expert but the original carnival and the present carnival did meet to try to make one group, but for whatever reason they could not agree terms.
As I say I'm not party to the talks so cant comment further.
Have to say It does make a mockery of the town having 2 carnival queens
and im not taking sides in any way.

22:0570410colin summed it up nicely, shouldn't everyone be working together for the benefit of the carnival?
bit like the hospital thing, all those millions in our grasp and then small town politics loses it all.

22:1770415If the queens did not have a £2000 float, they are walking in picture on the Main Page what happened to the money. How can a non-existent float cost that amount of money?
