Kathy, thanks for the explanation. And just spotted Rhys's comments on the front page for more info.
I wonder if it applies to parish councillors?

To quote the advice issued by DTC on 'purdah' is:-
Councillors can create their own publicity not using council resources.
In effect it means that councillors running for election cannot be seen to have the support of their councils or be seen to be using council decisions or resources etc to their own political advantage (this probably rules out most party election flyers but who takes them seriously anyway).
On 'door-knocking', it is fine to turn up wearing party rosettes or regalia but a definite no-no to do so wearing council badges or identity tags.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

On this we are at one, theres nowt more stupid that cllrs thinking they have to be silenced.
But there again in other posts i have highlighted how cllrs are officer led and this is another example of it,
Officers giving instructions, or political parties giving wrong information to it's candidates, thus restricting there ability to perform.
It's clear sue is well meaning but has got this information wrong from where ever the info comes from.
Political parties run scared of all these rules and regulations, which do in effect silence the very people we should be hearing from.
I hope that in view of helpful advice from other posters that Sue will take the advice and continue to post.
Barryw
it's the same with the licensing committee stating cllrs that live in the ward have an interest so cant speak, how stupid is that.
I hope that very soon cllrs start to speak out and take the route that is quite legal, can be done, in my short time on the council officers attempted to stop me from speaking but never achieved it.
i would have been happy to have gone to the standards board or wherever to explain how democracy is being shelved and voter turnout low, plus all the rest that went with it.
Sometimes it's about challenging decisions, you don't have to accept them it is at the end of the day advice.
There is clear evidence from posters that cllrs can post
now lets see if they do

As far as I am concerned other than using the Council PR machinery anything goes.
But beware if you tell porkies etc. Those are the ones that will be used against you.

thanks for that clarification paul, looks from the outside that the officers have put the frighteners on some councillors.

0f course Keith was part of the reason WHY they are more vigilant.
Remember the photo of Keith with the late Peter Wells [ a good guy] before the 2003 Election implying they had signed a new agreement with Dover Athletic FC which was plainly not true.
No such agreement had legally taken place.

Glad that's cleared up then.
I had been specifically told not to post on here and thought they knew better, so didn't.
I think we all remember that photograph.

vic would have carried on regardless.
will wait for our non councillor but still very active red, keef to raise the hackles of the blues.

just to say politicians (which i am no longer)make mistakes myself included, as you do paulw watching you i can name many but that goes away from the thread itself and whether or nort cllrs should
all clear now

The Anniversary Celebrations were great .The Chairman of River Parish Council was there as was the Mayor of Dover and Mayoress .
I enjoyed talking to the Brownies .They seemed to be interested in the fact I was once a Brown Owl .Things have moved on since the seventies .I recall some of my original brownies have done well in the world .
When I went to the World War 2 event recently the children wanted to know what it was like in the war ." Was i scared"
I suppose us oldies can relate to the young .
