These idiotic new rules.
Its an election so our candidates and councillors should be free to speak and campaign on media including this forum. Yes I even include Vic in that!!!

I have just found this definition of the original meaning of pardaa to give it its correct spelling
•solitude: a state of social isolation
•the traditional Hindu or Muslim system of keeping women secluded
•a screen used in India to separate women from men or strangers
I have therefore changed my mind and totally agree with it and favour its introduction for a longer period.

Doesnt this purdah seem the oddest thing nowadays. Times have moved on so fast with twitters and tweets and up to the minute everything...its just an impossibity to try to turn the information highway off.
We have seen modern technology changing the Arab world literally, because they can access information nowadays about other countries, other peoples way of life, other peoples activities and so on..you cant keep their aspirations quiet anymore.
We can it seems hear from everyone, but we cannot hear neither a pip nor a squeeeek from politicians who want our vote.
For heavens sake...if they want good turnouts at the polling booth, engage with the public, dont turn off the flow. Its bonkers...by the time the election comes people will hardly know its on.

Be careful Vic, if you overstep the mark and get elected, your election may be annulled and the election re-run without you.

taking the matter to a logical conclusion then they are not allowed to knock on doors to canvas support or speak at public meetings.

Purdah means that district council press office (or other officers) cannot promote its councillors (such as arranging photo shoots) as the leading party would gain an unfair advantage publicity wise. It does not mean that councillors cannot talk to press or have their photos taken.
The rules are more stringent for broadcast media (TV and radio) although I am not entirely sure why. It is a complete misunderstanding to think that councillors are now banned from speaking on issues

I think that some local councillors have delusions of granduer and are under the misapprehension that anybody listens to them anyway...for all the good they do they could go into self exiled 'purdah' or as I like to call it 'keeping their uninformed opinions and gobs shut' permanently for all I care.
Right....fuse lit ....hold away from body and await the firework to go 'off'.
