I can remember there was hopeful talk of an extension to Eastry nearly 20 yrs ago. Keep up the promotion Josh it keeps the railway in the public eye, EKR and others are on my list should I ever win Euromillions sadly there is little chance of that happening.

Richard.
Our future plans are to re-connect as much of our mining railway system and colliery sites as we can.
Of course we have to take this one step at a time and must not jeopardise this initial project to return Steam to EKR.
For the future, we are looking at different options to extend the railway and Eastry is one such destination. The old site at Hammil Bricks( Woodnesbourough Colliery) is one that we have looked into.
I had a thought, that having a platform at Winghan Wildlife Park would be a good idea.
Not only could we provide the link to them via rail, from there we could link up with Margate and Canterbury via a connection with a Vintage Bus Group.
However, forgive the pun; all these ideas are further down the line.
Today, we need to concentrate on this project and secure the future of EKR, to help our communities and to share it with our communities.

A link to Wingham Wildlife Park is a brilliant idea I hope the idea succeeds at some time in the future.

Nice picture of the Fowler Diesel. This was originally purchased from the NCB at Snowdown around 1981by the East Kent Railway Society-for the princely sum of £50-00! I remember organising the the fund to make the aquisition-the campaign was called 'A Fiver for a Fowler'.
The colliery management used to let us start her up and drive up and down the yard.(those were the days!) We derailed her outside the loco shed one day but with dexterity got the rerailing jacks out of the shed and put her back on before the safety officer knew what was going on!

Great work Vic, anything you or your grandson can do is fantastic for the railway and hope you two are both enjoying it too! I will one day get a chance to catch up with you, but spend most of the time in London now so only get down occasional weekends!
Hi Richard, I'm sure you'd have great fun chatting to Antony who owns the loco, he loves hearing stories about the loco and its past. - Wish it was still like that these days!
All the best!

Richard.
We are launching our St Dunstan Restoration Project and Celebrating the Centenary of Coaling at Tilmanstone Colliery, on the 17th March, 12 noon, at EKR.
Any individual or group wishing to back or support this project and future projects are welcome to come along.
If you or anyone else, are interested, please contact me on

Among many other plans for the day, we are hoping to have the "Snowdown" Fowler Diesel, on the platform at Shepherdswell for viewing.

NEWSFLASH!
Our Steam loco 'St Dunstan' was moved from Eythorne back to Shepherdswell for the first time in nearly ten years, on Sunday. The loco will be presented in a better position at Shepherdswell, where we aim to kick start the restoration of the loco by gaining public support.

At the moment the Minature Railway you see in the pictures, runs around the edge of the garden/play area and is about 100m. We are looking to extend this one and I would like to see another small gauge in the wooded area, where we have the woodland walks.
Josh.
Been and had a look at the St Dunstan to today, well done to you and the rest who got it moved.
Its journey has begun.

I've heard rumours of a grand new Master plan for the linking of Shepherdswell and Snowdown with a fantastic new community railway. Is this true?

Richard.
No, not specifically at Snowdown or to any of the other sites, at this time.
However, if we are sucessfull with our initial steam project at EKR, then we will be looking to restore as much of our old railways lines, to one or more of our old colliery sites, as we possibly can.
To be sucessfull, we need everyone's support, we need more volunteers to get the site ready for the re-introduction of steam.
Any help, however small, would be welcomed.
Please come along, have some fun and do some good for our communities.

Vic.
Just buying a cuppa and having a chat with the lads, passing on some of your lifelong skills is appreciated.
Hope your knee is getting better?
Thanks
