13:2579439Charlie Elphicke managed to get a question heard at todays Prime Ministers Question time re; the sell off of the Port of Dover. He basically was seeking support for his plan for a peoples port sell off rather than the sale of the "iconic" port to an overseas investor as allegedly proposed by the previous government.Nick Clegg in his reply was pretty non-committal but I'm sure the full text will be available later via Hansard. However it was still good to see Charlie standing up for Dover.

13:3579442Marek yes am currently looking at PMQ. You are right, Nick Clegg the Deputy Prime Minister, standing in for Cameron gave a very neautral reply to Charlie which would have been disappointing to Charlie I would think, and in fact was clear in mentioning the DHB a number of times. Hansard will fill us in fully later.

13:3879443Charlie is keeping the issue in the public domain and raising awareness. I would not expect anything other than a non-commital reply from Cleggy so I do not expect Charlie would be disappointed at all. It is part of the game that has to be played.

13:3879444i doubt if nick clegg is given any authority to make any promises.
he knows he is just a stooge for the p.m. if he steps out of line he will be out.

13:3879445Must admit I enjoyed the underated Harriet Harman when with first question she asked Clegg how his plan to abolish student fees was going!!? It was a brilliant moment and you could see Clegg squirm...and quite right too.
Meanwhile my daughter BB is outside The House with thousands of other students right now as I write, holding her banner aloft and demonstrating against the scandalous rise in student fees. Good luck to her.
ps She voted for Clegg believing he could abolish student fees...like he said!

14:3679455What the Hell is Charlie wearing on his lapel, other than a poppy? It looks like two small bottles of 'duty free'! How apt?

16:4779469Bob the item you refer to is not actually on Charlie's lapel at all but it is the House of Commons microphone hanging from the ceiling on a thin wire.
Yes Keef you are right about Charlie's shake of the head. He was clearly unhappy. Ive had another look now and no I dont have a picture of it.
BarryW if you watch Newsroom Southeast later they did an item featuring Charlie's head shake..more about the headshake than the question but worth looking at. They showed it on the lunchtime news and Charlie clearly unhappy with Cleggs response.

17:1679478Marek,
Blue Charlie is making a laughing stock of Dover. I suppose he will eventually come to his senses when it becomes apparent his ridiculous scheme is dead in the water!!

19:4479504just seen it on the box, cleggy played a straight bat, nothing much more he could add.
as said previously this is very much part of the game, charlie got more publicity for his idea and made himself look hard done by.
