Well I dont know about you but I am harrassed non-stop by people chasing me to claim for PPI mis-selling. The phone rings off the wall. All these people from across the nation are out to help me all the way down here in lil ol Dover.
It's touching so it is.
I'm moved to emotion.
Of course what they are really out to do is help themselves..every vulture seeing a quick buck on the horizon is wading in.
The bankers that wrongly sold us this PPI ...still get bonuses aplenty. Shure, the headline says they are losing their bonuses, but not a bit of it in reality. They are losing a percentage ..Tookey is being asked to return roughly a quarter of a million from his £1million bonus, but despite the fiasco which has cost Loyds TSB 2.2BILLION..they still get their bonuses anyway.
In my days in business if I had been responsible for such losses I would with almost everyone else, have found myself on the dole queue.

The amazing thing is that I get regular recorded messages at my IFA business by some aggressive ambulance chasing PPI claims company.
Now lets be clear... the actual misselling was done by salesmen employed by the banks (and others including insurance companies and general insurance brokers). The directors currently in place may not have had anything to do with the Board when this misselling was taking place, so it is not correct to say those responsible are getting bonuses. the institutions responsible for this have been told to clean up their act and I would hope that those in 'control functions' regarding the misselling have been either sacked or at least disciplined.
There is a real scandal though - that is these claims companies that take up to 20% of any compensation. Lets be clear, you do not need to use these vultures to put a claim through and it need not cost you this money. The process is a simple one and you can do it yourself. I feel so strongly about these vultures I will offer FREE help and guidance to anyone who feels they may have been missold PPI (or any financial product). If you think you are affected then let me know.

a very generous offer from barry there, i think we are all totally fed up with computer generated phone calls.
Barryw - they take the money for accepting responsibility for the organisation. of course they can't see what every employee or subcontractor is doing, but they are paid the money to take the risks.......
And thank you for the offer!!We actually claimed ours back successfully without paying one of those blasted ambulance chasers!

Bern - my point is that the misselling was historical, not necessarily the responsibility of those now in charge and in receipt of bonuses. I did say that those with a 'control function' a term used by the FSA which includes directors and were responsible for the misselling should have been penalised, possibly sacked, for this.

slightly off topic i got a phone call this morning from a lady called mina who knew my first name and was very nicely going to get a major discount for me on my credit card.
i went along with it for a while, when i got bored i explained that i do not have a credit card, she then had the cheek to ask me why not.

I've learned to love these random calls instead of getting wound up by them.
You can always tell when the computer is connecting to an operator and then get your story ready, play them along and then let them down gently or harshly depending on my mood!
I'm currently contacted two or three times a week by UK Consumer Database who apparently are based in Wolverhampton but you can hear the satellite echo - I'm educating their operators in English colloquialisms, 'You're having a laugh' and 'Pulling your plonker' are currently favourites.
We registered with TPS (Telephone Preference Service) acouple of months ago and that has put a stop to any of these cold calls!!

Paul, we've been registered with TPS for 10 years, doesn't stop the foreign ones!
According to one an hour ago I could have won a holiday in Cancun by pressing 9 but it's too hot for me there so I didn't bother.

I've just had a couple of calls from Landmark Securities offering a free home security survey and a free security system, I'd just have to pay the monitoring fee (yesterday's was actually a wrong number for Mr Newton in East Langdon, if you're reading this I saved you a bit of bother!). They called me several times last year in spite of complaining each time that I'm TPS registered.
Instead of winding up the caller I thought that this time I'd get them round and tell them in person what I thought of them as their rep is "in the area at this very moment".
When they found out my wife wasn't in they wouldn't come, "it's our company policy" but the poor girl on the other end got very flustered when I told her all the other things I buy without my wife's permission
Complaint to TPS and email to the company sent off, I'll see what more fun I can have.

There is an article in today's Dover Express (p25 by Eleanor Jones) about what I presume is the same company who have been calling me causing distress to elderly residents.
I've had a sort of result in that the company providing the monitoring service have asked Landmark Securities (the MD of no less!), the company doing the cold calling, to take me off their database. I've replied asking them to make sure all TPS registered customers are taken off their database.
I went to Kent Trading Standards website to find a contact to forward my correspondence to but their consumer team have now closed down, you get forwarded to Citizen Advice Bureau.

With regards to PPI companies, I am 100% behind BarryW.
I have just gone through the process with one of these companies and believe me I have been mugged.
I thought like many other's nothing ventured nothing gained and so what if they get 25% of what might be nothing then why not give it a go.
To cut a long story short, I did all the work, the positive side, was that the bank owed me money, the negative side is the bill plus Vat, came to nearly half of my claim, when not only did I do it all, including phone calls, it was very easy to do.
Please look into mis-sold PPI with your bank but do it yourself, if you want any advice, I am only too willing to help anyone. You might be very surprised, many people have got money back that they had no idea they had paid.
Also be patient, banks have just been told that they must inform customers that were mis-sold PPI, in writing and they will be telling them that they do not need to use these companies to retrieve their money.

You should have come to me Gary - it would have cost you nothing.

Jan, it doesn't stop them all, you still get the foreign calls and then there's the UK ones who start off saying they are not selling just doing a survey, and then try to sell you something after the survey.
