10:2190942Alexander - all highways issues such as pot holes and drains can be reported as in #1 above

22:2191232Pot holes, were filled in after the bad weather on Malvern Road, Dover, but to see it now you would think it had not been touched, just reported them again, just coming out and putting a little bit of tarmac in as they do, is a complete waste of money, in the last couple of years these holes have been filled in time and time again, what has been spent on them in this time, could have been put to perhaps resurfacing and doing a good job.
The roads in Dover are a disgrace.

23:1591239fully agree, these patch up jobs prove more expensive in the long run.
better to wait for better weather then do some decent resurfacing in my opinion.

15:4192589there were 3474 claims made for pothole damage up to the end of 2010. so far k.c.c. have paid out over £.56,000.00 with many more claims yet to be settled.
the figures are almost treble what they were in 2009.

16:4992594Yes I saw this item on the news and its a wonder that the claims are actually quite low. The reason for this is that I am sure people dont know they can make a claim aginst KCC. Just £56,000 is nothing in comparison to the pothole devastation all over the place. They have the potential to be lethal for motorcycle riders for a start...and they can wreck cars bigtime...not to mention cause fatal accidents.
I think KCC have been lucky on this one as the pothole situation is dire. I believe they have a budget of £6.5million at their disposal. When you weigh up the sums, its easier to absorb the claims than spend the money at their disposal, its cheaper. But they wouldnt do that...would they??

17:4892601Unfortunately Kent Highways' duty of care towards motorists and their vehicles is not worth a light. Negligence on the part of the highway authority has to be established, i.e. that they knew about the pothole and failed to fix it within a reasonable time, and that the damage caused was foreseeable. Otherwise your claim will fail, as most do. That is why there are so many claims and so few payouts.
