Agreed, DDC put a lot of work in to get it all together. There is a great deal to be positive about in our district and town at the moment. Also a lot of work to do and many a hard struggle ahead to bring even more positive things to our table.

I'll give a general update tonight, Howard.
It is all straight forward, and this time there is NO polemic to be involved, I can assure you, as I have been informed today that I am part of the public consultation process, having taken part in it in 2010.
Just to give a brief outline, once DHB have submitted their revised transfer scheme plan, those participating will be made aware of it by the Dep. f Trans., including myself.

it is commonly thought that the revised plan from d.h.b. will be lodged this week.

I didn't see the item, but the seafront and castle are wonderful. Maybe you have to move away from Dover like me and see them as a visitor to truly appreciate them. I wasn't sure about the wavy design, but I love it now. The promenade and Prince of Wales Pier make a perfect walk and there is always something interesting happening at sea or in the harbour, so every visit is different.

All respondents in the consultation process to date have been or will be contacted. As previously stated Alex, the consultation process has not been hijacked or subverted and I believe that the only suggestion that you might have been personally excluded came from you, although the point was made that you had missed out on opportunities to partake further in the consultation, which has remained an open and ongoing process. Some of us have continued taking part in the consultation process since it started in 2010, glad to hear that you will resume your participation after a 2 year break.
I would suggest that anyone who has something to say about the DHB proposal express themselves through the upcoming consultation, ensure that your voice is heard and then also keep a close check on all further developments to ensure that no invitation is missed and no opportunity to further press for a rejection of a private equity privatisation slips by unused.

Here is an update as of 23 May 2012, information received from the Department for Transport, transcribed in my own words to reflect the meaning, but to preserve confidentiality.
In August 2011, the Secretary of State, who since has changed post, announced a change in criteria when considering applications under the 1991 Ports Act for a transfer scheme.
He also introduced facilitated discussions with interested parties, which concluded in January 2012.
DHB announced they would submit new material, which has not yet been sent in.
When it is forwarded, there will be an opportunity for all interested parties, including myself, to comment on the additional material provided.
Those who have made representations will be informed by the Department for Transport.
All the bodies and organisations that have made representations on the proposed sale of the Port of Dover are being treated in a similar manner, which also applies to DPPT.

Commenting on the latest information, I am in no position to state whether anyone can join in on the next phase of consultation, or only those who were already part of it.
So please, if you have any concern on this issue, keep an eye and ear open for whatever official information is released by the Department for Transport, as under no circumstances do I wish to give misleading information.
I am sure any official statement on the upcoming consultation phase, and who can take part in it, will be released through conventional channels and will be forwarded to the Forum by way of local forumites, informants

, eyes and ears on the lookout and whatever PaulB uses to remain updated

The upcoming consultation is open to all interested parties......so if you're interested in what happens to the port of Dover, this consultation is for you to take part in. This is about our port, our town and our future, so it is important that as many people as possible take part and make their submissions.
Individuals and groups which have made submissions during previous phases of the consultation process and those that have remained involved on an ongoing basis over the last 2 years or so are being contacted directly and individually by the DfT to inform them that the DHB are shortly to publish new/revised proposals.
Once these are in the public domain, I am sure that forum members will be kept well informed.

Reading through the letter from the Department for Transport again, I failed to mention yesterday that the DHB website should be updated to bring any news on a new submission of theirs to the Dep. f. Trans.
Just checked DHB's website, and nothing is there so far.
There is a frequently asked questions link, which presents considerable information for anyone interested, but no news of a new submission for privatisation.
It also occurred to me that there is no mention of any time limit within which DHB must make a new proposal for a transfer scheme.
So in theory it could be ten years, or never!

DHB have not been keeping all sections of their website up to date just lately. I think that Richard is away for some reason and that Bell Pottinger are doing less for a lower fee since the bad press, so the rest of the PR team is probably feeling the pressure. You will note, that whereas last year the annual reports went live on line about 2 minutes after the public meeting started, this year they are still not yet available electronically and that they have started going later and later each quarter before publishing the quarterly traffic stats (2010 and part of 2011 they were posting these monthly).

I think people on this forum sometimes forget that if it were not for the DHB, the town would have been in a much worse state. Since when has the operator of a port been responsible for regeneration of a town? I am not averse to the idea of private investment in the port. Investment is what we badly need. I reserve judgement on the DPPT until such time as I have seen more concrete proposals and bid documents. At the moment, there is a lot of jingoism, which is certainly not helpful and I suspect is ditracting many potential investors.

have to disagree kevin, the residents of aycliffe, snargate and townwall streets have their lives made a misery by the incessant traffic so it is only right that some of the profits made are spent on some sort of recompence.
let's not forget that shift patterns have changed dramatically in recent years with the ferry companies meaning that less and less local people are employed.
