Further to Barry's post, a private family has no place as head of the Government in Britain.
A sovereign Government must be accountable to the People, and must be elected by the People. It must not be accountable to a private family, and no private family should live in palaces and on estates and in castles at the expense of the State.

You show how you understand the constitution as badly as you understand economics Alexander.

The constitution you refer to, Barry, needs changing. A private family has no place as head of the British State and Government.
It is like calling Keith Sansum head of the State and the Church.
Would anyone in their right mind go along with this LOL

Yes but the point is, a hereditary head of the Government and State, from one private family, whose speeches are written by the Prime Minister, is in reality a blank cheque to the Prime Minister hiding behind a facade of a family living in palaces and castles and, in return for a life of Riley, becoming the mouthpiece of one man, a Prime Minister.
I want Parliamentary Democracy, together with Direct Democracy (referendums), and this comes through ELECTED representatives, and does not require a mouthpiece of the Prime Minister dressed up as a lamb.
(KeithS, the Church has no place on this thread called politics politics politics......

)

An Act of Parliament is binding, Brian, it can come about only in the House of Commons and needs no consent from the lords.
Ultimately, the House of Commons is sovereign, but cannot bind successive Parliaments, nor be bound by previous Parliaments.
The oath of loyalty to the head of a private family is an anomaly that Parliament need not be subjected to.
The House of Commons can vote by way of Act of Parliament that no private family may be above the elected Parliament.

mmmm replace them with President Alexander, absolute ruler and dictator - the right man to turn this country into a Soviet Socialist Republic with living standard to match those in that great socialist paradise of North Korea.

A bit mixed up there Brian - Communism and Socialism are kissing cousins with fascism and nazism as estranged uncles....

Utter nonsense, Barry. Britain's elected Parliament should be accountable to the People and not to a private family.
No-one who is not chosen should lead the Parliament.

Keith, the Church has no place on this thread, keep politics out of the Church.
If you want to write about the Church, you should at least have the decency not to mistake it for politics politics etc. (see thread title).
