So was mine Keith. Also no smoking on NHS premises and no smoking in clinical whites. So a hat-trick of violations, any one of which should trigger a warning letter. There may be more, as you say we don't know the full facts!

Mayhap this kitchen bod, while his sponge-fingers were in the oven went out for a fag, and while they cooled he had another fag...Poor show.
In the all new p-NHS instead of lolling about he shall be in the A&E with his strawberry/coffee icing paraphernalia seeing to the cuts and abrasions. This alone will not be a cure...oh no. It's the Marzi-panacea that will do that.
Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.

Drifting slightly off the post as often happens but I am reminded of this by Peter's visit to A&E. Our district councillor wrote an article in the village newsletter at the end of last year saying your GP practice will now be charged £400 for every visit you make to A&E or a Minor Injuries unit.
I hadn't heard of this from any other source and the only info I can find on the web is that it was being considered in 2008 - anyone know anything more?
http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2008/apr/17/nhs.healthCross charging is a very complex part of the NHS structure , it sort of depends who is requesting the action , I will give you a ( very clumsy ) example
A person sees the local mental health team , the mental health team request blood tests , the person goes to get the test at a Hospital , the Mental Health service is charged for the test and processing rather than the hospital bearing the cost because the test is requested by a non Hospital team , who do not have a contract with the Hospital to carry out these tests .
A person goes to an Out Patient apt at the hospital , the consultant requests blood tests , the Hospital bears the cost of the test and uses part of the consultants budget to pay for it .
A person has a sore throat , they dont want to wait to see the GP , they go to Hospital A nd E thye are seen and medication issued , the GP practice may be charged as this is not the service the hospital is commisioned to do . ( I dont believe that this is a wide spread practice but it is possible )
All of the above are inelegant and rather symplistic examples of the joys and delights of the structure of the NHS as it stands
Doncha love it?!

Sounds just like universities - more people employed to do the admin than employed to do the teaching and research!
