  Well after being pooh-poohed as Labour spin by a number of leading forumites it's now been confirmed that one in every 10 police officers will be cut from forces throughout the country which can and probably will lead to a rise in crime.
  
  The policing watchdog said more than 34,000 jobs, including 16,200 frontline officers, will go in the next four years as forces buckle under the strain of 20% cuts to their budgets.
  
  There will also be cuts of 16,100 backroom staff and 1,800 volunteer bobbies.
  
  Mind you it looks like they've already started in the MET with 2 top coppers jumping before they were pushed.

  it is widely expected that petty crime will rise sharply in the coming years due to the lack of frontline officers.
  
  the next problem will be insurance companies looking for higher premiums.
  
  motor vehicles and home contents policies will be hit badly.

  Brilliant cartoon.
  
  Maybe I'm out of touch, but it does seem wrong to me that so much money is being spent on overseas aid (an increase too) but such big cuts at home.
  
  Foreign-aid is always essential, but instead of giving it freely all the time, why not just give when disasters happen, as in the drought in Sudan or the flood in Pakistan a couple of years ago.
