Can anyone confirm that the council will be removing benches and flowerbeds or is it just an unfounded rumour?

That was my prediction a few weeks back based on the history of DDC and DTC but there has been no official announcement to my knowledge. The flower beds have had no flowers this year so not a great loss if the rumour is true.

I am not worried about the flower beds although I would hate to see the benches go just because of the few drunk or drugged troublemakers especially as they will still congregate there unless moved.
I suspect this is a rumour but who knows it would certainly be the easy option.

I have been advised by an officer that in a couple of weeks they plan to remove the low walls and raised planters by the bus stops and replace them with pavement level flower beds,
They will also temporarily remove the benches as well

Those low walls are used by people waiting for their bus as there is not enough seating close by, does anyone from DDC venture into town to see this for themselves?
Why would they need to "temporarily" remove benches unless they are using the DTC definition?

if they are tempory removing benches etc, why not remove the bandstand as well, they seem to gather there a lot. [drunks& druggies] that is,and besides its not used enough.

Pavement level flower beds will not last long in that area surely they will get trampled on. What great mind thought that one up but I guess it looks OK on paper.

Who would do that Andy, bearing in mind that the police are not interested?

I agree with Howard when I do venture into town I sit on those walls as the shelter seats are useless as I told the .DDC Officer. I just slip of them
These people never venture into town use a bus .and they wonder why we do not shop in town .This will not get rid of the drunks they will find someone else to go .Why do us older people have to suffer.?I shall fire an email off tomorrow .

Good afternoon
You may be aware of the ongoing problem with the above particularly in Pencester Gardens, just to advise you that the super strength booze is being bought at News Inn in Pencester Road.

DDC's description
"Pencester Gardens are sited in the centre of Dover and provide a welcome area of green space within the town.
The open lawns abut the River Dour provide a pleasant area for those working or visiting the town to relax.
Dover Town Council constructed a bandstand in 2000, which is regularly used through the summer."
