Shame about Paynes. Unfortunately Game will be the next one to go. The staff there have all been given their marching orders too.

yet another depressing statistic, even worse as game have such a prime position next to marks and spencer.

I'd heard about Game a while ago.
This is very sad for Dover as a Town and for the operating businesses. Now that there is no business support, other companies have told me they will give up struggling - all because of one man's lies and intransigence.
Who ever takes over at DBS will have a hell of a struggle.
Success breeds suceess, but failure breeds more failure and we (someone) must put a stop to it as soon as possible.

Clearly Dover needs a new approach to this problem. I don't see anything so far to encourage me that bold enough steps have been or will be taken. In which case, we can only expect more of the same.
As for the market, well, don't hold your breath. It will probably be nothing more than stalls selling cheap tat and therefore hardly likely to bring a throng to Market Square. Better than nothing I agree, but definitely not the answer to Dover's woes.

You do work hard, but this is bigger than yourself and not getting the paid position.
Thats gone now, lets look to the shops
As a regular in GAME whilst its terrible the shop is going there is a small glimmer of hope one of the staff members is to open a shop in the charlton arcade

don't be so negative, people have worked hard for this and in my opinion this will kick start other things.
markets may knock out tat, but they bring life and colour to places.
you cannot deny that market square is underused, just a look at the old pics and artists impressions of the past show that is should be the heartbeat of our town.

I agree that some market stalls "knock out tat", but these are in the minority.
Fresh fish, meat, cheese (no new fruit or veg as we have 8 already - that was my intention, but I'm no longer involved, so have no say anymore), children's clothes etc. etc.
It is my view that with between 30 to 40 market stalls around the Market Square, up Cannon Street and perhaps Biggin Street, Dover will be buzzing and the Town.s businesses will do well - at least once a week. The increase in footfall will help enormously.
In the Express, Cameron talks like he's done all th organising, including getting hold of the market manager, which is simply not true.
Good Luck Dover.

we should encourage such market stalls and it doesnt realy matter who the hero is who planned it
I consider my self to be realistic. not negative.
But hey, you can all get excited about a market in the square if you wish, I did say it was better than nothing. However, don't kid yourselves about the impact it will have.

Thanks Brian, that's great news! I don't suppose we're allowed to know who your informant is are we?
Incidently, does anyone have the contact details for the previous owners? I believe Niel McGuiness and his father, Jonathon Vince, were the people who recently departed the shop.
Would appreciate any details that anyone can come up with. Email me at
