There's no reason York St needs 2 traffic lanes each way.

I can't see a problem with it, there isn't the traffic volume that was there pre A20 when it was built, so it is wasted space. Would also hopefully slow the traffic as it gets treated like a 70mph due carriageway.....

anyone that tries to use the crossings there takes their life in their own hands, clearly a case for taking one lane out of action.

I agree with Paul- there is not a huge traffic volume along there and making it single lane would slow traffic down so it could be a safety improvement. More parking for the town is important. As long as people don't then double park to unload like other town roads...

I've banged on about this before and will keep on!
Those of us around in the 70s when York St dual carriageway was built to take the Eastern Docks traffic around the town instead of through it (demolishing Dover's historic lanes in the process) will remember that the profile at the Snargate St end was raised on the suggestion of a local engineer/surveyor to preserve the Roman remains underneath it for future generations to reveal.
Well if it's so little used that it's now being considered as a car park then maybe that time has been reached and the northbound carriageway should be made single lane two-way with the southbound carriageway excavated as part of Dover's heritage and tourism strategy - over to Roger!

No one takes any notice of me any more Ray (did they ever ??)
I agree Paul that Brian can be very stubborn/possessive where the RPH is concerned.

Russell Street car park, a short walk from York Street, is never even half full.
I'm sure eventually DDC will come up with an idea that is sensible and for the good of the town.
Perhaps other posters would like to put forward such ideas that have already been actioned.

Aren't there plans to build on Russell Street car park?
There's also the car park in Albany Place that I would bet many Dover residents don't know about.

All these empty plots in the town and the council want to build all over green fields outside Whitfield.
