Alexander. Yes read the history and take the learning from it and you can do that without transplanting and judging actions through modern attitudes. There is absolutely no conflict between the two.

Yes, they get an allowance for the work they do, not a salary, work with considerable responsibilities too and £300 per day is not a massive sum. Certainly not compared to other many other nation's upper house legislatures.

The link in 5 is "uneatable". Reading three words from every third paragraph was enough.
This club should not be in our Parliament and should not be paid for and subsidised by us.
I don't see what this club has to do with Democracy, we haven't elected them, and I don't see why my taxes should be spent to finance it.
Don't see any future for the house of lords in British Democracy.
