21:4772193Awe for goodness sake Howard, I'm just having a bit of fun. I thought my dino pic being walked by Jesus was pretty funny, not meant to be too serious, but it's suddenly vile thoughts vomited from my brain or some such nonsense.

21:4772194Guzzler, can you repost your comment with 'politics' instead of 'religion' please?
Anyway, Valley of the Gwangi is a classic film. Stop motion miniature making at its best. Great pic Rick, I had forgotten all about it!

22:5372208Really?
When they stop mocking us non believers and stop trying to convince me to believe in their fantasy then I will stop mocking them

06:5172222My memory must be going - I don't recall anyone on here (including me) trying to convince you to become one of the Faithful, Ross!! I don't recall mocking you either. I have total respect for your viewpoint and your right to express it. I have no time, however, for people who use that as an excuse to release bile and poison into the ether. Ditto the religious warriors who do the same. It achieves nothing but hatred - it really is possible to discuss religion and politics without ending in a fight. Sex, now - that can cause an argument!

10:0272252You`re right Bern, and a constructive debate makes it all that much more interesting, with both sides sharing their views, rather than forcing them on other`s. I`ve never denied a god on here, but I merely state that I`m not a believer, whereas Alexander did make an error in completely denying alien`s, and left himself wide open to criticism. I do hope he post`s again on the subject, and not be deterred by other`s member`s comment`s. As Phil sums it up above, why is religion treated different to politic`s in discussion, after all, we`ve all witnessed some nasty posting`s on politic`s, which personally, I can`t understand. Yes Bern, a great place for debate.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

11:4072284Colin people dont take real offense in politics as its part of the game.. but with regard to religion people get very offended and upset. Its a faith thing and not often understood by those who dont have a faith.
You need look no further re this situation than the recent attempt at burning the Koran in the US by that looney fringe pastor. The whole world went into a frenzy of consternation...because basically people knew that it would cause widespread offense for no real gain.
You wouldnt get the same reaction if you burn someones manifesto. Thats basically the difference between the two. Its as simple as that.

11:4472285Well, as far as denying the existence of aliens goes, one only has to glimpse inside the Houses of Parliament for confirmation........now, who have I left out of that one!!?
But you are right, PaulB, and I hadn't considered that perspective - the prospect of burning a few manifestos is appealing though!

12:0672288Things like that flag burning above doesn`t do anybody much good as you say above Paul, and neither does plain head on attack into other`s with belief`s, which is why I do prefer a pleasant discussion. I never try to convert anybody, just try and get them to read and learn the other side of it, so a two sided discussion can take place.

13:3972293Well I will state that it wasn't my intention to post a harsh worded message, it wasn't pre-meditated. Personally I take great care not to offend other peoples' belief in God the Creator. I will note that I had also not intended bringing up the subject of persecution of Christians by order of this or that pope in history, as the Catholic church does not teach or uphold persecution for a long time, and I didn't want to harangue Catholics with what is known from history, but the coments equiperating Christianity to persecution and killing left me no choice, as someone had to defend the Christian Faith there. I mean, such coments cannot go unchallenged, as Christianity does not teach killing people.
I thought, that it might be fair if posts were not made which are not thought-over carefully when writing about religion, as gross statements can easily be historicaly wrong, as well as mightily offensive.
As for the later statements, posts 777-779, I thought there had been a kind of gentlemens' agreement betwen Colin, myself, Chris and Rick that if a thread on aliens goes up, I won't join in, and I took it that if a thread on Christianity came up from my part, may-be Chris and Rick would have held a respectful distance. That was all.
I was enjoying the conversation going on with Colin, and wanted to point out, regarding dynosaurs, and the millions of years of Earth's history, that in the Bible, although the Creation is numbered in six days, it also states that for God, one year can be like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one year.
Hence, a thousand years can be each a thousand years, making one million, and still be like a year, and a day!

13:4172294Actually PaulB, I must disagree with you as experience has shown that some will get just as upset by others disagreeing with their politics as they will be defensive of their gods.
As an Atheist I can assure you we get just as annoyed by the constant assumption by god worshippers that our views cannot matter as we "don't believe in anything". I for one believe in lots of things, true democracy, the inherent beauty of nature, the power of humanity to create the truly spectacular and the sheer wonder of contemplating an infinite universe among them. A repeated annoyance is the god followers who will patronisingly tell you that their god will sort me out when I am dead, this is just as trite and insulting as it would be if I was to repeatedly tell them that their views did not matter because Bilbo Baggins would judge them when they died.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

13:5072296Mr Precious you are always saying you are a Atheist yet when I am in the Church you turn up with the Dover Town Council you also join in the service and sing to God,I fine this very wrong if you do not know God and have no wish to know him, you should not go into his house in my way of thinking, but God does want you to be there but why are you doing it,is it just to support the council or what?I find what you are doing by going to church is insulting to God, as they say you can not have your cake and eat it.

13:5172298As regards to Wales not having a personal Christian emblem in the Union jack, this is because the British Flag is a Union Flag, between Monarchies, and Wales was a Principality.
Personally I do not consider this to be a problem, as Christ is the Emperor, and I believe that the British Isles should be considered made up of constituent Principalities (England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland) united in One House recognising only Christ as Emperor and Leader of the Church, and recognising His Celestial Monarchy as decreed by God the Father, with Parliament (and also local Parliaments of Constituent members) upholding day to day Government and Democracy in the British Isles.
Still, this is my personal view, and I personally also believe in the Fair lady, Who I call Britannia, as She is the Mother In High of the British.
Every people on Earth have a Mother In High, as God is the heavenly Father of all nations and peoples. As I believe in national Churches, this probably explains a lot.
Once again, my personal views. However, they keep me going and remaining in the Faith!

13:5972300Chris - you keep on singing! I have a feeling that God - if S/He is the one I am in dialogue with (so shoot me....) - would not be insulted in the slightest if you sang along. Why would s/he?! Blimey - we can't start proscribing who can and cannot sing in chuch if singing is taking place. I suppose if you wandered in and started riffing some Led Zep in the middle of a baptism there might be cause for concern, but other than that.........................
