Thanks Andy, I've contacted the Barrett Brothers, are they the same people?

i think the make up of the market will change according to the seasons, more hot food stalls in the colder months, more gift stalls leading up to christmas and more touristy type of traders from easter to september to cater for cruise passengers and crew and assorted visitors.

Howard, I've been putting the message out among local musicians, unfortunately most of them have day jobs.

Incidentally, the 6 banners we put up around the town advertising the market have all been removed.
Makes you wonder if the authorities really want anything positive to happen.

the one in market square went awol a while back, probably a souvenir taken back onto a cruise ship.
i did see one banner that looked like it was coming loose on the dual carriageway, maybe the authorities were worried that it might blow away in a strong wind?
incidentally who did you need to get permission from to put up the banners david?

It would be very helpful if the culprets could return them so we can put them up again each week for market day. They cost money to produce and effort to put up. Vandals get everywhere.

Thats the point, contact us and ask to remove, no problem, dont just vandalise

i doubt that the highways agency or anyone in authority has removed them, fly posters advertising long gone events are all over the district.

Just a thought are there any suitable places (walls?) where permanent notices could be erected giving day and times of the market, this would need to be somewhere like Priory, Pencester, Sea Front and Town Hall to catch the eye of visitors and locals.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Probably jan, its just disappointing to go to the time and expense of producing and displaying for them to disappear so quickly.

I would have thought it was necessary to get permission to put banners up but I guess if you don't ask permission then you can't get a refusal
On the matter of musicians, when I was in the town on Saturday I saw a lone Piper all dressed up in traditional Scottish kilt etc playing away on his bagpipes and very well too. It was freezing cold but he played on and on. Passing by a couple of hours later he was still there and it was dark then. I put some money in his bagpipe case. Took a photo on my phone but it is a little dark. Perhaps someone will know who he is, maybe he could play on Market Day.
Keith, when I lived in Cheam Village many years ago now, I used to go to Abbey Mills all the time. As you say it is a great market place. I still have some objets d'art that I purchased there, the food stalls were awesome. We would sit by the mill eating our delicious lunch, sweet memories.
