In the Olympic village athletes complain of blocked toilets, showers not working and windows that don't open. The stretch of water to be used for various events is full of raw sewage, now we find out that they are not adequately prepared for a terrorist attack.

I never expected anything less - that's what happens when a major sporting event is awarded to a third world country. I'm sure a number of now very wealthy IOC members couldn't care less.

The IOC refused to put a blanket ban on all Russian competitors and last week decide that management bodies from each sport decide who can compete or not. Now with 5 days left before the start the IOC have retracted and said that they will decide.

It is rumoured that the SAS have been deployed in Rio to protect our competitors, if true a very good move as the Brazilian police have no experience of dealing with terrorism.

My satellite box now has 16 additional Olympic channels yet we still have the main BBC channels taken over. Even my last resource for something decent to watch, BBC4, now starts early with it.
The world (and the Beeb) has gone mad.
Too much, too much.

Makes a nice change to see sport other than football!

The BBC seems to have forgotten some of us like all sorts of news when we switch on the tv in the morning.

I agree with Jan in that news should be about things happening in the world then comes sport. No problem when Leicester won the Premiership because that was about our love of the underdog winning against all the odds. Most of the Olympic coverage today has been about qualifying rounds in "sports" where most of us don't know the rules and know the contestants even less well.
Looking in this evening and nothing changes, incidentally two lady police officers in Belgium were attacked by a Jidahist/disturbed individual with a machete. You have to look down a bit to find it.

So much for sport bringing people together but something the organisers should have seen as avoidable.

The Olympic spirit seems to be a thing of the past, a Saudi Judo competitor withdrew from her first round match because if she had won it was an Israeli in the next round. The Chinese are moaning about their flag used by the hosts which has incorrect markings on - the irony the flag was made in China. They then complained about an Australian swimmer calling his Chinese rival a drugs cheat. the latter served a ban for using a banned substance.

Up to 4th in the medal table this afternoon, after a couple of rowing golds. 6 of each colour now.

I haven't watched any events but always delighted to hear of medals won by dedicated people. Rower Sir Stephen Redgrave trained in the Thames at 5 am each day for 16 years before going into the office for his day job.
