Ticketmaster will be charging £2.50 admin costs for the Dover tickets. Apparently Rizzle Kicks are sponsored by Coca Cola and will be appearing at every torch event.
Can't see 16,000 people bothering to be honest. And we'll be able to watch the fireworks from the house
I think we are all guinea pigs in the middle of an experiment for which they have forgotten to set up a control group!

160 seems a very reasonable attendance to me, should have done it under the tv screen in the square, no water there.

Apparently the torch event will not be showing on the big telly so if you are desperate to see the rizz kickers you will need a ticket.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

I believe the money for the Olympics, including the torch-run expenses, is funded from lottery money, so it's not your taxes Keith.

That's ok then.
Ps.
But they could have spent the money on the poorest of society, but that's just me being old-fashioned about charity money

Wonderful to see the Miners lamp used again to transport the flame over to the UK.

Yes, it was a great invention. The first trial of a Davy lamp with a wire sieve was at Hebburn Colliery on 9 January 1816.
There was some controversy, since George Stephenson also produced a similar safety lamp in 1816 which was generally called the Stephenson, except within the North East coalfields where it was called the "Geordie lamp".
Supporters of each man seem to have regarded the other as having plagiarised their man's idea.
The Geordie lamp had a glass inside the tubular gauze with a copper cap; the air was fed from below.
The Davy lamp was simpler and cheaper, and was popular with mine owners
However, the lamp used for the Olympic Flame relay , is a modified Protector Garforth GR6S flame safety lamp which is used for firedamp testing in all UK coal mines.

Is it true that the fireworks will cost around £100k or have I been misinformed? Seems a lot of money for big bangs that only last a few minutes........Luckily we'll be able to see them from my garden. Is this another example of showing off and ideas above someone's station???
Does anyone know the timetable of what time the torch will be passing when? I'm planning on having a party in my front garden to see it pass (any excuse for a party even if I can't be bothered with the Olympics). So anyone wandering around the Saxon Street / Norman Street area pop over for a sherbert or two.

The greenest games ever eh? A prime example of government hypocricy:

It's funny I've always considered Sports personality of the year as an oxymoron and now I'm completely convinced.

My mate in Wales said they all turned out for the Olympic flame to go through their town and when it did it was on a bus that zoomed past followed by the police. So no one got to see it. Are there only real people running with it when it stops somewhere? A lot of people are going to be disappointed. Still, like I say I'm very lucky to live where I do so it will be no disruption except negotiating a half days leave so we can start as we mean to go on

Jen,
According to this report, cost of DDC Olympic torch celebrations -
£100,000 Arts Council grant
£92,000 DDC original commitment
£? from KCC, unspecified amount
£90,000 extra required from DDC events reserves
£30,000 required from DDC special reserves
Total £300,000+ probably

these things don't come cheap, not something that ddc could get out of assuming they would want to get out of it.
the event is a once in a lifetime thing.
