Cabinet Minister, first secretary to Treasury says.......``People who `avoid paying tax`are no better than benefit cheats``

'Resident right winger' thank you for the compliment but its not necessary as I am not alone.
To you everything that you do not understand is clearly gobbledegook. Perhaps you should look first to your endless outpourings of incomprehensible full stops and selective heavily edited copied part-sentences and self-righteous sentiments.
Incidentally, I am pleased and proud to report that yesterday I was able to help a lady of 68 to save over £500 in tax by changing the way she invested her rather modest savings. Yes, I am pleased to help all sorts of people to stop paying more tax than they have to, though that is not my main role.

At PMQ`s minutes ago William Hague confirmed the government intention and committment to stop all ``Tax
Avoidance``by law pointing out the main offenders.
Your gobbledegook and camouflarge for your activities is always some elderly person you have helped to save a few pounds.
Good luck to the lady itemised `this time`but you yet again you again avoid the core of the problem``Tax
Avoidance``causes by `advertising`your ``Philanthropic `` work.........
# 5.....is indicative of your claimed `Philanthropy`
Q..who else is a right winger,surely you don`t mean Roger ?

But he's only exploiting a legal loophole isn't he? It's not breaking the law. It's not much different to someone like Jensen Button moving his main residence to Monaco. There's a big difference between tax avoidance and tax evasion.

Didn't see Reg's post there. When I said "he" I meant Jimmy Carr, not Barry. Though I have to say I have no idea what Reg is on about. I'm apolitical in that I can't stand any of them but a government at one time introduced these schemes. It seems a bit churlish to now say that people who use them are worse than benefit cheats.

The only gobbledegook is yours Reg, sanctimonious gobbledegook at that. 'My activities' as you describe them are in a heavily regulated business in which I have a duty of care to my clients and I would be serious trouble from the FSA if I did not make all necessary recommendations to ensure my clients do not pay unnecessary tax. Young and old, I not only save them tax I make sure their money is invested well.
Hands up anyone who would not reorganise your affairs to save yourself some tax and keep a bit more of your own hard-earned money for yourself... Anyone who puts their hands up is lying.

and that depends how far right wing you are,but saying that tax is tax and needs paying what ever the price.as tesco's would say every little helps and we are aall in it together.

Tax avoidance means, amongst other things, investing in an Isa or a private pension.

I thought I knew the difference between tax avoidance and tax evasion but it seems it can be a very grey area. For example in Howard's link above it says that Jimmy Carr puts away 3.3 million every year through the K2 tax scheme which apparantly is used by 1100 tax avoiders. Surely this is tax evasion, you cant really compare it to the usual ways like an Isa or a private pension etc. Its streching it too far

It is legal and that makes it avoidance not evasion and so is on the same technical level as ISAs, pensions and other common and straightforward tax mitigation measures used by most of us.
Osborne did brand some forms of avoidance as 'extreme' (a new expression he conveniently coined) and has brought in (or is bringing in) a general avoidance rule that may deal with 'extreme avoidance'. I have no problem about tackling 'extreme' schemes adopted by some of the very wealthy simply because they are breaking the age-old rule, described by a technical expression - taking the p***. But there is a risk that ordinary people may get caught up with the general avoidance rule. I am already alerted to certain question marks that may apply to some perfectly reasonable and accepted measures available to most people reading this in arranging their financial affairs.

"Very dodgy tax avoidance schemes" and "repugnent" words from DC on tv.

I find it unfair that only celebrities are being named what about the top bosses doing the same thing. Instead of complaining the government and HMRC should close the avoidance tax loopholes.
