22:5680834The first two items are such a "scoop" that I have forgotten all about them, this forum has had lengthy discussions about the peoples port. I get more information about what is going on in Dover on this forum than I ever got from the locals.

23:3280839just a case of horses for courses in my view, paul's forum is on 24/7 with members out with their cameras keeping us all informed.
the local press excel with their in depth reports gleaned by their professional expertise, surely both can co-exist?

08:3880848We shouldn't be writing off any of our 3 local papers and don't forget if they aren't told about certain issues or events, they can't cover them. So if you know a good story that needs covering, let them know.
A Town without a local paper is a poor Town indeed, so support your local papers, they may not have it right every week, but they do try.

Your right, local indeed.
as i'v said it certanly is not a community paper when t sets out to destroy people and there family and friends.
as said like jenne morgan and others on here i voted with right not to buy the paper.
If t ever gets back to being a communty paper Im sure many wll return

newspapers are businesses, they will print what sells newspapers.
if they portray everything as rosy, the paper would be too boring to buy.

16:2580878A community paper with a set of ethics I can admire. Then I might buy.

Surely it's up to the community to contribute to the paper...just look at the informed views and news on the DF. It's out there...on the streets

16:3180885This forum is invaluable because it has the voices of real people and a decent process of administration. If there were lies, exaggerations or vendettas on here I expect they would be addressed and at least examined. There is a trail of accountability that is absent elsewhere.

23:0380958The trouble with ANY newspaper is they can choose what slant they want to put on a story, this forum 'prints' all our views making it completely unbiased

in it's outlook.

15:5280984agree with posts 29 and 33
howard your correct on papers they can print very nearly whatever the want
but its also peoples choice if they buy paper
i used to every week up till about 2 years ago i saw the light on how damaging they could be, and like jenny morgan the indy cllr withdrew from buying it about 2 years ago also a freedom to choose not to read it

10:4681602I as much as others have been praised and criticised by the paper but as a community paper I cannot fault it. Thanks to the continuing coverage of the Christmas eve party at Age Concern, the centre has become possibly the most vibrant and wonderful place to be. Karen has received the most wonderful response for volunteers, gifts and entertainers and also new members and volunteers to help not just at Christmas but on a permanent basis.
To be part of the centre is a total joy, not just for me but for all those who attend and give of their time and I mustn't forget those who give of their time at The Age Concern shop, without whose help the centre would be a poorer place.

16:0981639Well that is the next big story Sue, the papers will be on to that one and no mistake. 18 years is one helluva stint to put in so a well done for that. Obviously very difficult to comment further...
