17:5880701Just read the letters page in the 'Dover' Mercury. It's mostly from Deal.

18:5080712Why bother to buy a local paper that no longer has a local office or really covers the area it serves plus it is full of adverts. I gave up a few years ago.

21:5480739The reception pupils feature is something we do across the group. Because Dover Express is part of the Folkestone Herald series (they all go on the same press) we will have to share things like adverts and features like first class. This is why there are both Dover district and Folkestone schools in the Express (and why the Folkestone readers will have Dover schools in their paper)

21:5880740I meant to say they all go on the same press run, plus hi to Penny, pop in and see me at the hotspot (again) some time

22:1380741That doesn't make me feel any better about not having a dedicated Dover paper or office.

22:1780743times have changed bern, when i first moved here i was astounded that there were 2 local papers, nowadays the mercury focuses on deal and the express seems divided over us and folkestone.

22:2080745Bern, I'd love to still be in the Dover office but the newspaper industry is as vulnerable to the economy as everyone else. Many businesses, including us, have had to make painful cuts.
On our side of things we have to work much harder to make sure we are still out and about in the district and know what's going on even though we are now in Folkestone. We have to accept cuts the same as so many other firms and employees and do our best whatever the circumstances

15:3080783Apparently the Dover Express said that DAFC are playing Aldershot in Round Two of the FA Cup on December 27 (!!!) instead of November 27.
Luckily there's the interweb, the blogosphere, Facebook, Twitter, citizen journalism and good old human interaction to still get things right!

15:3280784But no offence to the hard-working hacks who would love to work in less straitened circumstances.

21:5980829Same here, the local gossips provide more news than the local papers.

22:2480832maybe people forget the scoop on the inmates walking free from the detention centre, the expose on the chamber top chap and the peoples port launch that none of us would have known about.
i sometimes think that the "eggs press" gets a lot of unfair flak.
